About Karrawa Guest House

Each of the six rooms at Karrawa Guest House comes with its own en-suite bathroom and free WiFi, kept plain and unfussy rather than dressed up with extras. It suits guests who want a straightforward base for the night rather than a lot of frills, with a 24 hour reception on hand whatever time you arrive.

Breakfast is included and served in full Scottish style, a proper start before heading out for the day. The guest house sits on Inganess Road in Kirkwall, with free on-site parking making it easy to come and go, and Tradespark nearby if you fancy a wander. Fishing, pubs and bars, and restaurants are all listed as nearby options for evenings and days out.

It's a no-nonsense option on Orkney's mainland, built around comfortable basics: a bed, a bathroom, breakfast, and parking sorted, with Kirkwall's wider amenities within reach.

Cross Best

We found this to be the best place we stayed on our recent trip to beautiful Orkney and around Scotland. Fiona is so sweet and has a great sense of humour, my father and I thank you for that and for answering our multitude of questions. We had the same lovingly prepared breakfast 3 days in a row because it was so good, the fruit salad is cut up by hand with fresh fruit. Best showers and very clean rooms, snacks out all of the time. 100% recommend, you don't need to look anywhere else.

My travel mate and I had unit 4 at the top of the stairs. We had two twin beds and a lovely en suite. Our room had a tea kettle and a coffee pot. Plugs were located in convenient spots. The mattresses were heavenly after our long walkabouts. The entire establishment was very clean and well maintained. Fiona, the hostess, issued us breakfast order forms each evening and breakfast was cooked to order. We experienced our first piece of haggis at Fiona’s and it was lovely. The b&b had been booked by our tour group The Highland Explorer / Haggis Adventures / Radical Travel. It was delightful.

You will never find a more caring and attentive owner than at Karrawa. We stayed here with Highland Explorer Tours on August 11, 2025. From the expertly cleaned rooms and accessories to the individualized attention to your personalized breakfast, you will enjoy every moment of your stay at this establishment. I know this is technically a three star hotel, but anyone staying here would give this experience no less than five stars across the board. Thank you.

Fiona (and Colin) were brilliant hosts. The breakfasts are fresh and cooked to order, along with a wide selection of cereals and juices. Our room was spotless and roomy, with a big closet for hanging up rain-dampened clothes. It’s a 20-minute walk to the centre of Kirkwall, or a 6£ cab ride if you’re coming back from the pubs. Lovely, quiet, and very good value, with ample parking on the property.
