About Scourie Hotel

Scourie Hotel suits travellers using the Highlands as a base for fishing, walking or a slow drive around the coast rather than those wanting a city-style stay. Set in a former coaching inn dating back to the 1600s, it has kept a traditional feel while offering warm, comfortable rooms with en-suite bathrooms and views out towards the bay.

Guests get a restaurant and bar on site, along with breakfast, free WiFi, 24 hour reception and drinks available in the room. There's a garden for quieter moments, free on-site parking for those touring by car, and the hotel welcomes pets, making it a practical stop for longer trips around the Highlands.

The surrounding area suits an active stay, with fishing and golf nearby, watersports on offer, and walking routes leading out from the hotel itself. Further pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby give guests options beyond the hotel's own bar and dining room, making Scourie a sensible base for exploring rather than staying put.

A true Highland gem full of heart, incredible food, and wild beauty—we extended from 2 nights to a week! The Scourie Hotel is a rare, wonderful find. What started as a two-night stay quickly turned into a full week because this family-run hotel is simply bursting with warmth, care, and charm. The owners—Fiona and Richard, alongside Charlotte and Anthony—make you feel truly welcomed. They remember your name, your preferences, and your interests from day one. What made our stay so special: The Food: As an Italian who travels the world, I can tell you the food here is outstanding. No pretentious "plated fine dining" gimmicks—just honest, delicious, high-quality cooking with a daily changing menu. Perfectly cooked steaks, fresh fish, rich potato purée, and incredible homemade ice creams (the coffee, hazelnut, and blueberry sorbet were divine!). The Service: Mary and her team were fantastically attentive, ensuring our favorite table was ready and anticipating every need. The Wine: Anthony has curated a thoughtful, well-priced wine list with real character—not overly commercial, just brilliant pairings with great stories. World-Class Fishing: The lochs and rivers for salmon and trout are superb. Richard gave priceless advice and arranged a brilliant ghillie, Jamie, for our outings. Unbeatable Location: Located right on the NC500, though most drivers make the mistake of rushing through! Nearby beaches like Oldshoremore and Polin are gorgeous, and the 4-mile trek out to Sandwood Bay unveils a wild, turquoise-water paradise. The river walks along the Laxford, Inver, and Kirkaig are breathtaking—keep an eye out for jumping salmon! Home Away from Home: Cozy, peaceful rooms and spacious sitting rooms lined with fascinating books. Perfect for relaxing with a dram of whiskey or a cup of tea by the fire. This isn't a pretentious hotel trying to be something it’s not; it’s an authentic, cozy haven full of love. You might check in for one reason, but you’ll find five more reasons to stay longer. Chatting with Fiona, Richard, and the family alone is worth the trip for their wealth of local knowledge. We loved every second and will definitely be back!

The hotel was overpriced at £266 for one night and was not even able to book in until 16:00. The bedroom was small, with a cramped bathroom, and, as it was in the eaves, could not stand to have a shower, and the bottom of the bathroom door was splitting. Even the usual things were missing like plug sockets that were only provided on one side of the bed. All the hotels we have stopped at had a TV in the room, unlike this one, and the meals at £55 per head were exorbitant, so we chose to eat elsewhere. Also, the car park should have catered for the disabled which it didn't. If you are doing the NC500 and hotel hopping, a B&B would have been a better choice.

Lovely spot this. 'Remote' doesn't quite do it justice. It's proper out the way. Visited in September as the season was coming to a close. Had cycled in from Thurso so was pretty exhausted that evening. Really nice local food served in the restaurant and a comfy bed to crash in shortly after.
