Rooten Brook Farm - Clougha View

Photo: Rooten Brook Self catering holiday cottages

Couples and solo travellers will find Clougha View suits a quiet retreat or a base for exploring Lancashire and beyond. The property is a converted barn on a 800-acre working farm in the Trough of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where walking trails crisscross the landscape. One dog can come with you for no extra cost. Bedrooms, bathrooms, electricity, wi-fi and bed linen are all included; the essentials are covered.

Inside there is one double bedroom upstairs and a ground-floor living space combining sitting room, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen has an electric cooker and microwave for self-catering, and a utility room with washing machine and freezer (shared with other farm properties) means laundry is straightforward. A cubicle shower serves the bathroom. Gas underfloor heating keeps the ground floor warm. The sitting room has a sofa bed if a second sleeper is needed, though this offers flexible rather than permanent sleeping space.

Outside, a small enclosed courtyard with garden furniture offers views across the surrounding fields. Lancaster is four miles away, with restaurants, pubs and the castle; Morecambe Bay and its seaside resort lie eight miles south. The Lake District, Pennines and Yorkshire Dales are all within an hour's drive. No smoking indoors. The property draws water from a bore hole and a stream runs through the grounds.

Lovely cottage (I stayed in Clougha View) stone floor with underfloor heating. Fantastic location to be able to visit family at the university (10 mins from Uni and 10 mins from town centre) even better being able to walk straight out onto the hills behind with a footpath from the house to Clougha Pike / Ward Stone. Good base to explore the Trough of Bowland. Stunning views from the outside seating. Comfortable bed and hot showers. What more do you want

Small but neat. Superb view from outside seating area. Large bedroom. Shower cubicle small square one. Fully equipped, but no kitchen roll. The 3 cottages share the one outside area. Narrow lane off the road to reach with no passing place

A very peaceful stay with stunning views. Clean, warm, good space, outdoor seating and parking. It is a working farm so expect cattle and sheep, tractor movements and sheep dog barking but this all adds.to the experience of rural Lancashire. Easy access to Forest of Bowland, Kirby Lonsdale, Ingleton as well as the Lancashire coast, Blackpool, Lancaster and Morecambe. Supermarket on edge of Lancaster and Fast food is also there, but even the journey over the cattle grids and through the ravine to the farm adds to the magical feel of the Clogtha Pike.

Stayed 4 nights from 29th April - 3 May 2022. Cannot fault the cottage or location. Looked new inside and immaculately clean. The views are to die for and the outside seating area is a great touch. The only thing that spoiled it was the vibrant barking of several collie dogs that work the farm. More importantly and the first morning we were wakened at 6.45am by the farm Jack Russells yapping echoing round the yard for and hour and every time they let it out. Always women between 6.45 and 7.45 by the dogs and then more or less constantly all day. If the weather had been good enough to sit outside we wouldn't have done because of the baking. Saw Linda and told her and she spoke to her son. There must have been confusion as he said he hadn't let the dog out until 7.30 that morning. Still to early when you're on holiday and trying to rest. Blamed it on another cottage visitors dog, but the yapping continued even after those guests went home. Spoiled what would have been a perfect, relaxing holiday
