What visitors say
This is a wonderful place to visit. Lots of information boards, and visual representations. Small cafe and gift shop. Well priced. And the staff were just lovely. Just don't do as I did and drive on past the entrance. It's a sharp right just as you turn onto the road, and then there's a small car park on the left. And should you wish to visit the masoleum, you can walk up the steep hill to the right of the hellfire caves, or turn left from the car park and drive up to another car park. There's also a lovely church and graveyard there as well. Highly recommend you pay a visit.

We’ve lived in Wycombe for nearly five years and had heard plenty of stories about the Hellfire Caves. We’d even hosted a birthday party here before, which was fantastic, but had never taken the time to properly explore the caves or dive into the history, until now. Even though we were familiar with many of the stories, the caves themselves are still very impressive, and some of the tales are quite amusing. The spookier elements are especially well done and help keep kids engaged throughout. That said, there are a few areas that feel a bit tired and could benefit from some updating. One slightly disappointing feature was the “River Styx” section, where artificial stalagmites and stalactites have been added. It would be nicer to see this area focus more on the natural formations, perhaps with markers showing how they develop over time. Overall, it’s a great historical site, closely linked to the Dashwood Mausoleum and West Wycombe Church, both of which are within walking distance uphill. We took our time reading the information boards and spent around 45 minutes there. It’s still good value for money, especially if you’re interested in history and a touch of the supernatural.

A nice 30 minute walk through these ‘cool’ tunnels on a hot day. Age range of group were 8 year old to 70+. Easy to navigate your way around, as you can see from the map in one of the photos. As you enter (on your left), a little place to purchase a few F&B items, and some seating outside. The Car Park was a short walk away (we walked over the hill - wasn’t steep). This is where you can purchase more substantial food. If you are travelling from far away I would recommend planning this with other sites, as you can walk through these tunnels quite quickly.

An interesting and atmospheric historical site, though smaller than you might expect. The caves stretch about a quarter of a mile and take around 30 minutes to explore at a steady pace. There’s plenty of information throughout, and the history - particularly around Hellfire Club and Francis Dashwood - adds to the experience. Lighting is low in places but generally sufficient, and the path is mostly easy to walk. Parking: Very limited near the caves, though additional parking is available a short walk away at the base of the hill. Toilets: Available near the small ticket/shop area. Worth a visit if you’re in the area, but don’t expect a long experience.

Some reviews mention the caves can be artificial-looking.
