About Hope Street Hotel
Hope Street Hotel opened in 1999 in a Venetian palazzo-style building of 1860 that began life as a carriage works, and it was the first boutique hotel in the city. Its position at 40 Hope Street, roughly midway between the Anglican and Metropolitan cathedrals, puts it in the most attractive quarter of Liverpool, surrounded by Georgian terraces, the Everyman Theatre, the Philharmonic Hall and several of the better restaurants in town.
The hotel has grown to around 149 bedrooms across the original building and a newer wing. Seven room types run from king doubles up to rooftop suites with private terraces, city views and outdoor spa baths. The style is restrained: wooden floors, natural materials, flat-screen televisions and large walk-in showers with Temple Spa products. Rooms at the top of the building have the views; those in the original carriage works have the higher ceilings and the more interesting proportions.
Two restaurants operate on site. The London Carriage Works serves modern British cooking and holds two AA Rosettes and a notable wine list; 1931, named for the year the building's neighbour was completed, does hand-stretched pizza, pasta and sharing plates from noon until ten. There is also a spa with a swimming pool, an outdoor vitality pool, saunas and a steam room, along with meeting and event spaces and 24-hour room service.
The location suits theatre-goers, couples and anyone visiting the cathedrals or the university. Lime Street station is about twelve minutes on foot and Liverpool ONE around fifteen, both downhill on the way there. Rates start well below what the building suggests, particularly midweek and out of season, which makes it one of the better value four-star options in the city.

I had a wonderful stay at Hope Street Hotel and would gladly return. From the initial booking, the staff were incredibly professional, friendly, and helpful. The hotel itself is lovely, a perfect blend of old and new with plenty of quirky character. My king-size bed was exceptionally cozy and made for a great night's sleep. As someone with celiac disease, I was particularly impressed by the restaurants and bar; the food quality was excellent, and the team was fantastic at navigating gluten-free options, so much choice at breakfast and was so grateful for a selection of gluten free bread and gluten free cereal. I also tried the thermal experience at the spa. While the facilities are lovely, at £45 I felt the price point for hotel guests was a bit steep (if it had been £35 for hotel guests, that would have been more aligned with the offering). The serene atmosphere was unfortunately disrupted by a few loud groups in the spa taking photos and videos, drinking cocktails, and enjoying lively conversations. Not quite what I was hoping my quiet afternoon thermal experience would have been, it's not exactly a large space. Additionally, all the shower dispensers were empty of soap and shampoo, so there was nothing to wash up with at the end, and providing a fresh, separate towel for the post-spa shower would have been appreciated. Overall, I do highly recommend Hope Street and will absolutely be back when I’m next in Liverpool!

We had an amazing stay at Hope Street Hotel and could not fault the experience. A special thank you to Martina, who was lovely from the moment we checked in. She made us feel really welcome and also checked in with us during our stay to see how we were finding everything, which was a really nice touch. When we arrived, we were also told our room had been upgraded as it was a special occasion for my wife’s birthday, which made the stay feel even more special. The spa was really nice, the restaurant was lovely, and all the staff we came across were friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a brilliant stay and we would definitely recommend Hope Street Hotel.

A great characterful hotel in Liverpool, lots of old exposed brickwork and feels like a place where a lot of close attention to detail has been achieved to make this a unique, friendly and very comfortable place to stay in Liverpool. There is also a spa in the hotel and a good bar for evening drinks. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant offers a bit of everything and service is good as well, location is great for cathedral visit and a short walk down into the hustle and bustle of pubs and restaurants in central Liverpool. Uber cabs are plentiful so getting around from this hotel is really easy.

Sensational, room was incredible. I was a dumbass with the balcony light switches (they're behind the curtain) and the dude was sound about it. Lovely welcoming gift for my birthday and then incredible service regarding our engagement tonight. Local area is pretty average but this hotel is a standout experience. Incredible y'all
