Beautiful location. You have to pay for parking, which I think is quite expensive. We parked on the road as we arrived in the evening. The rooms are very large and the beds are comfy. The decor was a bit tired; my bedside light didn't even have a bulb in it. The moat infuriating thing about the hotel was that there was no not water in the morning. We had kept the water heater on all night but nothing. A very chilly shower was endured.

The owner spoke fluent German and was a gentleman. There was a very comfortable room and bathroom with a striking view of a park with trees. It wasn't noisy and had a lift. I liked the beautiful building and beautiful park nearby.

Unfortunately we had a very poor experience here and ended up not staying. When we arrived I had just driven for around 4 hours and urgently needed the toilet. Both the male and female toilets at reception were out of order. I asked if I could quickly use the toilet in our pre-booked room, but the receptionist said her system was down and because the room hadn’t yet been paid for she would have to escort me to the room and I couldn’t take our bags up. We then had to wait for the manager to come and sort the payment before anything could be done. When we were finally shown to the room, the door looked like it had been smashed off its hinges multiple times. When we mentioned this to reception we were told it was because they have issues with the lock and sometimes have to force the door open. The room was also right next to a fire exit and the door clearly didn’t feel secure. Because of this we didn’t feel safe staying there. The corridors smelt very damp, which we were told was due to a leak in the building. The car park was also in a very poor state and full of old furniture, which didn’t give a great first impression. This hotel is being marketed as 4-star accommodation, but unfortunately the condition of the property and our experience were nowhere near that standard. We ended up leaving and booking the Premier Inn at Albert Dock instead. Hopefully the hotel is able to resolve these issues, but based on our experience we unfortunately couldn’t stay here.

Unfortunately, our experience did not match the images and presentation shown online. The room we were given was extremely different from those pictured and appeared poorly maintained. We also had to request fresh towels and cleaning, which should normally be properly managed without guests having to ask. In addition, doors did not feel safe, which was especially disappointing and concerning. Management really needs to address this property with either a proper refurbishment and upgrade, or present it more honestly online so expectations match reality. At its current standard, the social and online image gives a much better impression than the actual guest experience.
