About Merit Kensington Hotel
Penywern Road sits in the heart of SW5, a residential Kensington street lined with terraced townhouses just a short walk from the Underground, and it's here that the Merit Kensington Hotel makes its base. The location is well suited to exploring London, with restaurants, pubs and entertainment all within easy reach of the front door.
The hotel has 25 rooms, kept clean and well-equipped, with breakfast served each morning and a restaurant and bar on site for evening drinks or a meal without having to venture out. Guests can also make use of a garden, a lift, luggage storage and free on-site parking, while meeting rooms and wedding facilities make the property a option for events as well as overnight stays.
It's a straightforward, good-value base rather than a luxury stopover: rooms are comfortable, though air conditioning has been known to be temperamental and service can be inconsistent. For anyone prioritising location and price over polish, it does the job well.

Location was incredible! Super close to a tube station and easy to get around London. Some really nice pubs and restaurants nearby as well as a pharmacy and general store. The rooms were small, and the bathroom particularly small, however, that is to be expected in London and is a standard thing to expect. Overall - a great stay!

We booked this hotel last minute and were really pleased we got to check in early. We booked a “double room” which you’d expect a double bed - no we had a sofa bed. The room is finished really well and bathroom lovely I don’t understand why they didn’t purchase a bed and a sofa instead? Really odd. The curtains were also too small for the windows so I’ve been awake since the sun came up at 4.30am. Struggled to get to sleep and also remained awake due to a pile of stuff out the back banging against the building during the night. I wasn’t asked on checking out how I enjoyed my stay either suggesting they don’t really care! Unsure why you’d spend that much money doing a hotel up and fall short at the easiest things. Oh yeah and there wasn’t socket near a mirror at all.

A little gem hotel at Earl's Court. Small rooms are modern and very comfortable. New Grohe bathroom, the bath even has a wall TV! Nice breakfast but do get it included or pay the day before. Recommended.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Please read all other 1 star reviews and you will notice the same pattern. This was our 3rd time to stay at this hotel. We have loved it in the past bc of its convenient location and quiet street. However, this time was our last stay. Our kids room had a leaking A/C. And not just a drip. It was POURING out of the vent, so loud they couldn’t sleep. We made the front desk aware of this and got a different response every time. We heard everything from - “Maintenance is coming in 5 minutes” to “We actually don’t have on site maintenance and they have to log in remotely to check what’s going on”. While we were out one day they came into the room and put a rag in the vent and just turned off the AC. That was their solution. The next night OUR AC went out. When we called the front desk again - same thing - so many different responses. They ultimately moved us to 2 different rooms - which was appreciated, but it took 5 phone calls to reception to get that. It was never once offered - I had to beg for it. I emailed management about our concerns and got a terrible response back. And absolutely no compensation for ensuring 3 nights of no AC. Just more excuses, taking no responsibility and placing the blame on us. We are well travelled and have never experienced this lack of customer service. We will not be back! There are plenty of other hotels nearby with the same convenience and MUCH better reviews - stay at those!
