About Serendipity House

A townhouse conversion on Marlborough Street, Serendipity House keeps things small and personal with just five rooms, making it a quiet base rather than a big hotel experience. It sits within County Derry's Londonderry area, with Ness Country Park providing a nearby green space to explore.

Rooms are comfortable, though on the compact side, so this suits guests who don't need much space to spread out. Breakfast is a genuine highlight, with a wide range of choices to start the day, and the garden offers a spot to relax outdoors. Free WiFi and luggage storage cover the practical basics, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward.

What guests notice most is the welcome: the staff are consistently described as friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make a stay easier. With Londonderry itself close by, Serendipity House works well as a comfortable, well-run stop for exploring the surrounding area.

Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience with the owner. We were due to stay on Saturday, but sadly my aunt passed away on Thursday, so we needed to change our booking dates. We weren't asking to cancel or for a refund—we simply hoped the dates could be amended. So we called to see if there was any flexibility given the circumstances. The owner showed no sympathy and made no effort to help. Instead, he blamed Booking.com (which had said they would have no problem changing if he agreed) and the "back office," saying that even as the owner he wouldn't get involved. He even suggested that people might lie about bereavements. I offered to provide proof, including a death certificate, but he still refused to consider any solution. I then contacted Booking.com, whose agent was understanding and genuinely tried to help, but they were unable to get any cooperation from the property. It's incredibly disappointing to be treated this way during such a difficult time. Reading other reviews afterwards, it seems that similar issues with customer service have been experienced by other guests. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend staying here. Would have felt uncomfortable to stay here even if we could’ve went.

We had a very small room @ the top of the house with creaking floor boards at every step. In the morning when we went down for breakfast. We were informed by a lady in the kitchen that breakfast had finished @ 9.30. I checked my watch, it was 9.42...there was no one else in the dining area. She offered to make us a coffee. I didn't see the point. It was breakfast we required. Although check out time was not until 11, we grabbing our bags and left the property well before 10 and went in search of breakfast. Very disappointed to say the least. Never ever again..

Only giving 1 star as you can't do zero stars. As we arrived it didn't look like what was posted, I think the photos they use are very old. It looked run down. The guy that answered the bell was not very welcoming. He ran off to get his book then told us to follow him. He literally ran up the stairs and we finally found him I think on the 3rd floor. He scribbled the door code on a bit of paper and ripped it out of his book for us. There was no mention of the breakfast we were supposed to have. Then he left. The room definitely was not what was expected. Very small, rundown, the bathroom was so small you wouldn't be able to dry yourself after a shower, which I don't think I would even use. Everything was so bad, we were pleased we didn't bring our suitcases in, not that they would have even fit in the room, as we just walked out and went and found another hotel, and never went back.

Stayed there 2 nights with my partner. We didn't know it was 2 different buildings and its not made explicitly clear on emails that its 2 different places. We were in a room at the top of the second house. The room was immediately extremely warm and even with turning off the heating in both the room and the bathroom it was unbearable, even in the bathroom. So not helpful for those who are sensitive to heat and can feel sick from it. Breakfast was OK and at the other house across the road, it's self service pastries, cereal, toast etc.
