What guests say
We stayed for two nights over the bank holiday weekend in a standard room as this was the only one available when we booked. We got a good rate via booking.com The hotel has just been bought over and has started some refurbishment which I would agree is needed in areas. Our standard room was fine, clean but no view. The room had tea/coffee, two bottles of water and a television which is rather small. The towels are also on the small side and the mattress not good at all really, every time we moved on it you could hear the springs ‘pinging’, hopefully these will be updated in the refurbishment as it would stop me staying here again, we didn’t get a great nights sleep. In terms of food, we did eat in the restaurant on both evenings and it was great. On the Sunday we had the carvery which was really tasty, fresh and plenty of it! Portions in general in the restaurant are big! We ordered the pavlova on our first evening and it was amazing so ordered it again after our carvery and it was not even close to being the same as the first time, it was really disappointing and not like the pavlova we had on evening before. The breakfast was a little disappointing. On the first morning there was some fruit, yogurt, croissants etc available however on the second morning no fruit, no yogurt and only a few croissants available which went very quickly. The cooked food at breakfast was very good. The best aspect of this hotel is the staff, they work very hard and really do try and give their clients a great experience but there are a few inconsistencies letting them down e.g. the pavlova being very different over the two nights, the lack of items at breakfast on the second morning…there seems to be a lack of staff so those who are there are working tirelessly. We had a great time and would recommend it and will return once the renovations are done, hopefully the mattress will be better!

We had our wedding here last week. Highly recommended. Beautiful setting and beautiful food. All dietary requirements were catered for and every guest remarked on how good the food, service and staff were. The Belfray's in house planner, Geraldine was a pleasure to deal with and made sure we had the perfect setting and run time of any entertainment we had booked. Everything was seamless and to a very high standard. I can't say enough good things about this place. Book with confidence!

Restaurant review only. My friend said this was one of the best two meals she'd ever had. She's from Northern Ireland and was THRILLED with the Champ. My fish dish was delicious. The view was lovely. The dining room decor was tired and odd but who cares when you're enjoying a delicious, peaceful meal in the countryside? The wine options were not good. The service was friendly.

Absolutely not a four star hotel. A low three at best. Interior is very tired, the whole building needs a refresh or ripped out and redecorated. The bed in our room was terrible, bowed in the middle. We got back to our room very late, otherwise we’d have asked for a different room or just moved to a better hotel! Cracked floor tiles in the bathroom, hot water in the shower wasn’t consistent. Had shampoo but no shower gel, no bath towels, only hand towels. The room had a tiny TV. No coffee machine. In a supposed four star!!! Not surprising that when we checked out the staff didn’t ask how our stay was. Staff were really friendly, just a pity that the owners are expecting them to provide good customer service in a run down kip. Really disappointing and won’t be back.
