About Forest of Dean Camping
Tucked into Gloucestershire's Forest of Dean, this family-run site strikes a lovely balance between creature comforts and woodland escape. Pitches are spacious and well-kept – some hardstanding, others grassy – all with direct access to cycling and walking trails that thread through ancient oaks and bracken. Staff here are genuinely helpful, dishing out local tips and going the extra mile for guests, while facilities (heated showers, spotless washing-up areas, baby-changing, launderette) punch above their weight for a smaller campsite.
Dogs are welcome year-round, firepits can be hired by the night, and there's a small on-site shop for essentials. A few reviews note that mobile signal can be patchy in the forest – though many count that as a bonus. The overall vibe is peaceful, with stunning views over the canopy and a proper sense of getting away from it all, yet Lydney's shops and restaurants are within easy reach when you need them.

What visitors say
Perfect small campsite with open views from the brow of the hill. We stayed with our big 2.5m wide x8m long caravan on the well kept hard stands . The grass pitches were very generous in size and well maintained too. Fantastic friendly welcome . Lots of info on the surrounding area walks etc. The Toilet/shower building was exceptional, modern and spotless. One of the best. I've seen in a long time. Good hot showers☺️ . Very good washing up area that is indoors. We loved our stay! Thank you. If you are arriving with a big unit, take time to read the very good suggested approach routes that are detailed on the website. Some of the routes up from Lydney can be tight and are not the best. We followed the route in via Viney Hill no problems. The last short bit down the final approach road is single track but with good views of oncoming traffic and is quiet and perfectly do-able.

Brilliant family campsite. We stayed in a tent so had a simple grass pitch. Slightly sloping but not an issue if you think about tent placement. Beautiful setting. Convenient short drive to amenities and a small onsite shop. Immaculate wash facilities with decent hot water. Jess was super helpful throughout. 15 min on road ride to Mallards pike where the Collier's trail be accessed.
