Charnwood Guest House

Just had 3 nights in the Charnwood Guest House. A great stay, rooms although not huge are perfect. Comfortable beds, great shower & tea making facilities. Ideal as a base. Fantastic location, 10 minute walk to Lyme Regis town centre walking along the river, so peaceful. And fairly flat for what is a hilly area. Parking on site is a massive bonus, in a quiet residential area. Ruth & Phil were great hosts, took the time to talk to all their guests at breakfast every morning, made us feel so very welcome. And having keys to home and go at our convenience was great. Can't praise it enough, we'll be back again. Thank you.

I ran a bed and breakfast and it's hard. It's not just an easy to do, little retirement job. It's full time and you have to be there for the guests. The hosts were lovely Rooms for sleeping were a good size and very clean. Lovely view, really comfy bed. No pressure in the shower at 8am and although clean we couldn't wash. Room Tea tasted like digestive biscuits. The chocolate left was really lovely. We did get the time wrong for breakfast we arrived at 0900. We were told breakfast is 0800 till 0900. So we felt bad when it was explained that's when it finishes. The eggs bacon and sausages were the cheapest you could buy. If they had a local butchers provide the meat it would have wiped away any complaints, apart from the shower. People remember meals more than rooms. Location fantastic, hosts lovely, given a key to come and go was a really nice touch. The owners did not pester us. They gave us the space we needed. Overall 2 complaints over a thousand other details they could have missed. We enjoyed our say. Sorry it's not a 5* review. If you had been the cheapest then it would have been. It's hard to run any business, going cheap on the meat is understandable, and how many times is a person going to stay there.

Charnwood is definitely a great location for visiting all the places in and around Dorset. Phil and Ruth are excellent hosts. Really near for a couple of nice walks to Uplyme and in to Lyme Regis. Lovely whit bedding and towels. Would certainly go back.

Great location, short walk into town along river path which passes mill, stroll a bit further to fossil beach. Car park available on site. Cooked breakfast was great Hosts are very friendly, rooms comfortable, lots of restaurants and pubs, cafes short distance away.
