About Hanwell Wine Estate

Camping among the vines at this family-run Leicestershire vineyard offers something genuinely different from the usual pitch. Since 1975, Hanwell has been producing award-winning English wines, and now a peaceful grass paddock with just a handful of pitches lets you wake up looking out over rows of vines and rolling countryside. The setting alone would be worth it, but the real draw is being able to wander the estate on the self-guided 'sip and stroll' trail with a tasting flight in hand, or book onto a proper guided tour to learn the story behind what's in your glass.

Facilities are refreshingly simple – 24-hour toilets, picnic tables for al fresco suppers, and a Friday-Saturday café-bar (12-3.30pm) serving local cheeses, Mediterranean platters and the estate's own wines. It's family and dog-friendly, with electric hook-ups optional. For supplies, Melton Mowbray is 15 minutes away, there's a pub five minutes' drive, or a 10-minute walk gets you to a service station with a supermarket – handy, if not exactly glamorous.

I have to admit, I’m not a fan of wine, but I absolutely loved the Sip and Stroll experience at Hanwell Winery. It was such a brilliant way to spend the day — I learnt so much about the wines, the process, and the passion that goes into making them. I enjoyed it so much that I even bought two bottles of wine! Staying for the weekend at their campsite made the experience even better, as we could relax and enjoy a drink without having to worry about driving. A fantastic weekend at a fantastic place. The setting, the experience, and the hospitality were all wonderful. We’ll definitely be back!

Just come back from a lovely weekend ‘wild camping’ at Hanwells. Having been to a few wild camping sites this is the first one at a vineyard! The added bonus was the spectacular sunset on Friday night! We booked the sip n stroll booked for Saturday lunchtime. Tasted 6 very different wines, I especially loved the Cherry (still) and the North Star dessert wine, oh my that was delicious! We shared a Cheese board and cheesy tortillas afterwards. Due to the 37 degrees heatwave we sat inside the cafe and did the ‘stroll’ later in the day when it was cooler, well only just ! The staff were excellent and very welcoming as was the owner Helenka who lovely and committed to make anyones experience memorable. Thank you Helenka, and team, we had a lovely time and will definitely be back!

A beautiful and versatile venue for events, conferences, afternoon tea, wine tasting, weddings, camping and so much more.
