About Highlands Holidays Monmouth
Tucked into the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty around five miles south of Monmouth, Highlands Holidays is a smaller, deliberately low-key site that has built a devoted following among walkers and campers after something quieter than the larger Forest of Dean campgrounds nearby. The emphasis here is on open grass pitches and a scattering of glamping wagons, with campfires actively encouraged and the surrounding lanes offering direct access to the Wye Valley Walk. Trellech and Tintern are both within easy reach by car or bike.
Facilities are kept straightforward—shared shower and toilet blocks, hookup on selected pitches—but the trade-off is a genuinely rural, unhurried atmosphere and genuinely dark skies that returning visitors regularly praise. Dogs are welcome, and the site suits couples, small groups and families looking for a proper camping experience rather than a resort-style stay. The glamping wagons offer a fallback for anyone without their own kit. Book ahead for summer weekends given the relatively small pitch count.

A well equipped and cosy cottage in a beautiful location with lovely views of the apple orchard and wooded valley. Louise is an amazing host and we would highly recommend! Plus easy access to walks in the Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons as well as many local options from the doorstep.

My wife and I had a lovely stay here when walking the Wye Valley. Louise was kind and generous, even lending us a paper map for our walk back from the very lovely Lion’s Inn pub. We enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise over the valley in the morning. Decent, simple facilities in a quiet and picturesque campsite.
