Yew Tree Barn

Monmouthshire

Monmouthshire's valleys and market towns make this corner of Wales rewarding for walkers, explorers and those after a slower pace. Usk itself is small and historic, with castle ruins, independent retailers and pubs; Raglan lies nearby with similar appeal. The Brecon Beacons rise to the north, Offa's Dyke runs through the region, and Tintern Abbey and the Wye Valley are within easy reach. Yew Tree Barn sits in countryside between these attractions, making it a practical base for a week or a long weekend.

The converted barn is arranged on one level and sleeps 6 across three bedrooms: a kingsize, a double, and two singles. There are two bathrooms, one a wet room with grab rail and shower seat. The kitchen is properly equipped for self-catering, with electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and washing machine. A wood-burning stove heats the living room, which opens through French doors to decking. One dog or cat stays free of charge. An enclosed garden with decking, barbecue and furniture provides outdoor space. Parking for two cars is on site, and an electric car charging point is available at cost.

Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and initial fuel for the stove are included. The property is non-smoking. Coarse fishing is 2 miles away; golf courses and walking routes are plentiful locally.

We've just spent a lovely weekend at this beautiful property. General wear and tear from a very loved property. Great location - and great hosts had everything we could possibly needed. There was a cracked window. So I'm guessing the bad reviews were these customer. Full security received back within 24 hours of leaving the property. Great accessibility, for all ages! Ideas when you visit - Trip to Usk farmers market every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. Trip to Abergavenny market. Carvery at the anchor Inn - in Tintern.

Family of 5 - child 11 Grandparents active mid 70s Married couple mid 50s On journey to accommodation attempted to call to say on route no response I attempted three times over a few hours, text messaging to introduce self as heard nothing prior to arrival date (or so we thought)Owner had sent a message apparently to old number about damage deposit but did nothing when did not hear back ( in my opinion should/could have checked contact details with cottages.com) Arrived 30 minutes early tried to contact no response so waited until check in and tried again no answer, started to worry at this point. Called cottage's and explained, husband also walked to what we believed was owners house and knocked on door, after some searching the poor lad found a key let us in but would leave the spare key meaning unable to go out for dinner as panned as couldn’t lock door. At this point owner sent generic message with bank details requested a damage waiver of 125 £ prior to key safe details, however, accommodation dirty damaged window, cupboards pealing, disgusting kettle and rusted microwave ( these were replaced after a difficult discussion during which damage waiver was owners main concern) place not clean , light pulls on bathrooms so filthy I needed to bleach the cords before could be used. I could go on and on, we have time stamped pictures to back up all of this. Oh and we haven’t had our damage waiver back and no response from owner regards this which from google reviews seems standard.Disappointing and disgusting avoid would be my advice. Update - so owner denied there being any issues when approached by cottages. Com so I’ve added photos to prove I don’t lie. She also accused us of stealing towels which I can tell you know I would not have dried my dog on, unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of them. Disgusting behaviour by owner stay and your peril Oh and thanks to us there is s new kettle and microwave otherwise she would have expected you to use the ones in pictures!!!!!

After we complained about the owner and the state of the property they have now withheld our damage waver that we were supposed to get back. This appears to have happened before on previous reviews. I would avoid this place at all costs.

Beware! Your deposit is at risk. We booked through an agent for a stay in September 2024 but gave a deposit directly to the owner. The given directions were out of date. The entrance to the road was dangerous. Our bed was propped up on books. The kitchen was tatty. The whole building and contents were attractive but let down by things like outside lights and kitchen lighting not working even though previously mentioned. But the withholding of our deposit was disappointing. Our suspicion was that some damage to a rug had been hidden with a chair leg before our arrival.
