Cliff Top Cottage is a four-bedroom house sleeping seven in Portknockie, a small village on Moray's coastline. The property comes as a whole to yourselves, with space to spread across two bathrooms and a dedicated games room fitted with a snooker table and dartboard. One small dog can stay at no extra charge.
Downstairs holds the living room with woodburner and smart TV, the kitchen and dining area with full cooking facilities including dishwasher and washing machine, a bedroom with kingsize bed, and a bathroom with bath and shower. Upstairs are three further bedrooms: two with zip-and-link kingsize beds that convert to singles, and one single, served by a shower room. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered; the woodburner comes with an initial load of fuel. Outside is an enclosed garden and patio with seating, plus bike storage and parking on the road.
Portknockie sits on the Moray Firth coast near Buckie. The Portknockie Fish & Chip Shop is nearby for supplies or a meal out. No smoking throughout the property.

I’ve stayed in a lot of cottages in Scotland. This one was 99.999% perfection. The layout and the finish to the cottage is absolutely first class. 3 large double rooms with king size beds (I think - they looked bigger than doubles) and a single room can easily accommodate 7 people. Bathroom downstairs has a nice deep bath for a long soak after climbing the hills and cliffs around Portknockie and a shower over the bath, hand basin and WC whilst the bathroom upstairs has a large walk-in shower cubicle. Kitchen has a dishwasher, cooker and microwave and a washing machine, handy when you’ve got kids, plus a kettle and toaster and the floors are hard wood throughout, making it easy to sweep up any sand you might trail in from the beach which is just metres away. There’s also a Hoover under the stairs if you need it. The owners have obviously thought of everything. The views are stunning. The famous Bow Fiddle Rock is literally yards away and it’s a leisurely 1/2 hour walk to Cullen, (either by a dedicated pathway or via the beach) the nearest biggish town about 1 3/4 miles away. In the other direction about 2 miles away is Findochty, another stunning harbour town. The Admirals pub there serves excellent food and drink with fantastic waitress service. The woodwork throughout the cottage is beautiful oak and the views from the living room overlook the Moray Firth which offer some spectacular sunsets. If you’re lucky you’ll catch seals and dolphins swimming about. The harbour is only about 100m or so away and there’s a lido/pool built into the marina for kids to splash about. The garage has been converted to a sports room with a pool table and dartboard and there’s also a smaller snooker table in there too. The nearest supermarket is Tesco in Buckie, about 5 miles away, but the village does have a Spar shop (closes at 7pm), a pharmacy and a chip shop (open Thursday to Sunday 4:30-7:30pm) as well as a pub (closed whilst we were there) and a hotel which is open to the public if you fancy a beer or two. As I said, this cottage is almost 100% perfection… my only gripe if I had one? USB sockets. It could do with a couple in various rooms perhaps and I only say this because I left my charger plug behind in Edinburgh the night before so couldn’t charge my phone and they didn’t have one in Tesco. I think if I hadn’t lost my charger, I wouldn’t have any complaints at all so I think perhaps a couple of USB sockets in the kitchen or next to the beds would give it that final 0.001%. All in all, it is a spectacular holiday cottage. You won’t want to leave. (My apologies for not taking photos inside the cottage… I got distracted by the view outside!)
