Courtyard Lodge

Courtyard Lodge is a ground-floor barn conversion on the owner's grounds near Rufford Abbey Country Park. It sleeps two in a super king bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, and everything you need to cook proper meals—electric oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave and full-size fridge-freezer—sits in the kitchen-dining room. A wood burner heats the living space, where you'll find a 46-inch TV and DVD player. Wifi, electricity, bed linen, towels and logs are all included; there's also a welcome pack on arrival.

Outside, a large lawned garden has a patio, seating and a gas BBQ. Private parking fits two cars. The location suits both explorers and those wanting to sit still—walkers and cyclists find routes from the door, and a pub lies half a mile away for food without cooking. Clumber Park, Sherwood Pines, Newark, Lincoln and Nottingham are all a short drive. Note that an unfenced pond sits 25 yards away in the owner's garden. No smoking.
