About The Red Lion

Tucked into the Waveney Valley just a stroll from the riverbank, The Red Lion combines waterside rambles with proper pub hospitality. Electric hardstanding and grass pitches occupy the grounds of this traditional country inn, which serves up excellent-value food – the Sunday carvery, with tender meat and heaps of fresh veg, draws particularly warm praise. Friendly staff and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere add to the appeal, and dogs are welcome (in the outdoor areas).

The Angles Way footpath runs right alongside the nearby River Waveney, offering 93 miles of walking, while canoe hire lets you explore from the water. A playground keeps children entertained, and the site's modest scale (11-25 pitches) maintains a peaceful feel. Local museums and watersports are within easy reach, and a bus route past the pub door makes car-free exploring straightforward. Do note the pub closes Mondays and has limited midweek evening service, so plan meals accordingly.

Lovely village pub. Service was friendly and fast and the food was delicious. We had the carvery and it was excellent value for money. The beef was slow cooked and so tender. Plus help yourself to every side. Brilliant! Well recommended to anyone in the area. Also totally dog friendly and gave us a lovely table in the corner so the dogs could relax too.

It's my local, three real ales available and a popular carvery on Sundays. I was there for the well attended general knowledge quiz. Great atmosphere as always.
