A last-minute camping decision had us hunting around Google and Pitch-up, and we came across a site in one of my favourite villages - Thornton-le-Dale on the edge of the North York Moors. A quick call to Val at Low Farm Campsite at Ellerburn and it was confirmed that they did indeed have room for us, for the princely sum of £22. Low Farm is a proper, traditional camp site and it is all the better for it. No EHU, no phone signal, no WiFi, just peace, tranquillity, and lovely scenery. There are no fixed pitches, so what small caravans/campervans were there, were dotted about randomly, not in regimented rows, which made a nice change. The site is nice and flat, and surrounded by trees and hills. The facilities are modern and spotless, although there is only the one shower so take your chance when you can. The only thing we found slightly odd, was that the pot wash only has a cold tap - unless it just takes a really long time to get hot - so we simply filled our bowl from the bathroom sink, and the next time used water from the kettle. Thornton-le-Dale, with shops, pubs, fish & chips, pizza, and tearooms is five mins drive, or 15-20 mins walk along the stream. You’re also about 30 mins drive to either Scarborough, or over the NY moors to Whitby. Direct access to the trails of Dalby Forest is about 1/4 up the lane from the site. Ideal for MTBers or walkers/runners. We will definitely re-visit, for two or three nights next time.

Absolutely magical wine away camping, we even stayed an extra night I didn’t want to go home! Val, the farm owner was the sweetest human I have met! She made us feel welcome and even drew a hand made banner for my husbands birthday and gave him free cheesecake! The land was full of wonderful animals (the guinea pigs were my favourite), and the facilities were extremely clean and also had a shower too! A 3.5 mile walk from Dalby forest and a 20 minute walk away from the quaint village of Thornton Dale, where there are 2 pubs with lovely beer gardens and food served (check times etc if you do visit) I felt my soul feel fulfilled and we will be visiting again very soon. Dog friendly in most places Malton, York, Pickering, Thirsk in a drivable distance Very good value for money Perfect!

Amazing chilled site. Great location and very peaceful. Planned on staying 2 nights but stayed for 3 as we didn’t want to leave. Excellent host that made us feel really welcome !

A beautiful camp site away from screens and the "city life", a no frills kinda site with no hook up and no pitches, just what we were looking for. A little on the pricey side (had to pay extra per child even though the showers are chargeable) toilet block is modern inside, shower is clean and functional. Only knocked stars off for the extra charge for children and showers.
