Capstan Cottage is an unusual upside-down house on a small holiday development just outside Whitby, with bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor and the living space upstairs. The balcony from the open-plan living area frames views of the Esk viaduct, and on clear days you can watch the North York Moors steam train wind through the valley below. Three bedrooms sleep six: one double and two pairs of single beds. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob for proper cooking, and essentials like bed linen, towels, electricity and Wi-Fi are included.
On-site facilities are shared with other properties: an indoor heated swimming pool (open February onwards, 1.1m to 2m deep), children's play areas, picnic grounds and BBQ spaces. One parking space comes with the cottage; more is available on the road nearby. The location works well for families wanting to explore the Yorkshire coast and North York Moors—Whitby's abbey and harbour are within reach, and the steam railway to Pickering runs through the valley you overlook. The shared grounds contain an unfenced river 220 yards from the cottage. No smoking indoors.
