What visitors say
We have just left this site after a glorious three day stay. We were originally given pitch there but got a message from the owner who said we could have pitch six as someone has just cancelled and the views were lovely from that pitch. This is the third site we've stayed in over the years in Whitby and definitely the closest with a choice of three walking routes into town. Yes toilets and shower is dated but I used them every day at different times and they were always spotless and there was a mop and bucket so you could clean up after yourself...as you should do! One star dropped due to the washing machine being out of order on the day of arrival and we had planned to do a wash but these things happen and the wash up area needs attention. Other than those small points everything else was brilliant and we will definitely return 😊

This is our second visit to Airy Hill site, we came back as we liked the fact that we were so close to Whitby and bus stops for Robin Hoods Bay and the views over the river and Abbey. Last time we came, there was a caretaker guy on site who was very helpful and kept the facilties fairly clean. Sadly this time the toilets and showers were filthy when we arrived, maybe they had been cleaned in the morning, I doubt it as the bin was half full and all 3 toilets had empty rolls of toilet paper and the toilets were not clean! The shower looked very dubious too. There was hot water and soap at the sinks though, although these too had not been cleaned. I reported the lack of cleaning on the second day when we returned in the afternoon and realised no cleaning had still not taken place, Mark came back to me to tell me that he had emptied the bins and replenished the toilet rolls however it had not been cleaned. It was very disappointing given that this is a basic expectation when you pay for somewhere with toilet and shower facilities. So the two days we stayed no cleaning took place which is very poor.

Motorhome pitch had water and electric. Pitch very small, no room for awnings. Nowhere to wash the pots. Could not find grey waste disposal. The location is really good though.

What you're paying for with this site is the location - that's about it really. We got to the site and immediately were confused. There's no reception, little information in emails before you arrive so you have to call Mark to give you instructions (to be fair Mark was super helpful and really cheery). Pitches are sufficient in size, although you'd possible struggle to have your canopy out since it's right next to the road through the site. The dishwashing area, if that's what you call it, has a sink that needs ripping out and replacing - I would not wash my dishes in there, even if there was a draining board (which there isn't, so not sure how you'd actually wash your dishes). Toilets were clean, but was a little dubious of the shower - and someone kept smoking cigarettes in the toilets which absolutely stank (again, the site can't be held responsible for this). Getting out was a massive headache. Because there is no signage, I wasn't sure whether to reverse out and risk possibly damaging the motorhome on the overhanging toilet block roof or drive around the site. Wished I had of reversed. We're 7.6m and only just managed to squeeze around after moving pots, chairs, traffic cones and tables from other caravans. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but only because of the location - I think the price you are charged for what you get is very steep. We probably wouldn't go back.
