Cleveland View Cottages - Rupert’s Stable

North Yorkshire

Rupert's Stable is a converted barn on a working farm in Easby, North Yorkshire, with its own separate entrance and driveway. The single-storey layout means everything is on the ground floor: an open-plan living and dining space with exposed beams, a wood burner and a smart TV; a kitchen with electric oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher and washing machine; two bedrooms (one with a king bed and ensuite shower, one with two single beds); and a main bathroom with a bath. Underfloor central heating runs throughout, and solar panels contribute to the running costs.

The property sleeps four and comes with bed linen, towels and wi-fi included. An external utility room houses a freezer and tumble dryer. The enclosed garden has a patio and furniture, and there's a shared picnic area by the river. Parking for two cars is on site, and a bike store is available. One pet stays free. A welcome pack with tea, coffee, milk, hot chocolate, bread and cakes is provided on arrival, along with initial logs for the wood burner.

The farm sits on the edge of the North York Moors, with walking routes including the Cleveland Way nearby and Roseberry Topping a short drive away. The village of Great Ayton is a couple of miles off. The location suits walkers and cyclists wanting a base for exploring the moorland, though it's equally appealing simply as a quiet retreat away from town.

Lovely clean cottages, fully equipped for self catering. The owner, a dairy farmer lives and works on site. They have a herd of 300 Friesland cows. Can be a bit smelly but that's life on a dairy farm. Surrounding country side is beautiful with easy access to the Yorkshire Moors. Nearest village is Great Ayton about 2 miles. There's a train station there with direct link to Middlesbrough and whitby. This is a lovely ride across the moors, with standard fares, and a lot cheaper than the north Yorkshire heritage line. We spent a week there and really enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely go back there time permitting!

Spent 5 nights in Bettys Byre as a base for doing The Cleveland Way. Our host, Andrea, sent us really good directions which was just as well as we arrived in the dark. Lovely welcoming pack of wine, milk, bread, rocky road, biscuits (and midget gems😊). Do be aware that you are on a working dairy farm where the smells are natural and the working day starts early and ends late (but we didn’t mind). Really comfortable and well equipped.

Always a pleasure going to these holiday homes. Very clean and everything you need while away from home. The owner leaves you basic staples for the start of your stay. Andrea the owner always makes a point to say hello. These homes are on a working farm so the the sight, sound and smell of cows is a given but won't put you off your stay. It's the ideal place to recharge your mind, body and soul. We as a family love it.
