This stone cottage sits in Staithes, a working fishing village within the North York Moors National Park, with the Cleveland Way walking trail running past the front. The building retains original character while having been thoroughly updated, with three bedrooms spread across two floors and a second bathroom that means no battles over who's in the shower first. One bedroom has an ensuite; the others share a family bathroom with a tub and overhead shower.
The ground floor is mostly open-plan, with a living area that centres on a woodburner, a separate dining space and a kitchen fitted with the essentials for self-catering: electric oven and hob, dishwasher, and a washer-dryer. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included in the price; so is a supply of logs for the fire. There's Wi-Fi throughout, a TV with Freesat, and an enclosed courtyard garden with furniture outside. One dog is welcome at no extra cost, and there's parking for one car on site.
The village is built steeply down to a small harbour and feels genuinely lived-in rather than a tourist replica. A pub serves food, there's a shop for basics, and the rocky beach is good for fossil hunting and paddling in summer. Whitby lies 8 miles along the coast; the cliff path leads that way and on to Robin Hood's Bay and Ravenscar for longer walks. No smoking inside.
