Rising Sun Cottage sits on farmland with views across open countryside, a converted cart-shed in a quiet setting where coarse fishing on three on-site lakes comes free to guests. The whole property is yours alone, arranged on one level with a wood burner in the living space, a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washer-dryer, and a patio with garden furniture and gas barbecue. One bedroom has a kingsize bed with ensuite shower; the other has two single beds. The family bathroom includes a bath with shower. Underfloor heating, wifi, bed linen and towels are provided, along with logs for the stove.

York itself is within easy reach for days exploring the city walls and Minster. The location works equally well as a base for the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Dales, and the coast at Scarborough, Filey or Whitby. A pub and restaurant are a mile and a half away; the nearest shop is three and a half miles. One pet is welcome. Smoking is not permitted.

We’ve recently got back from Haddock’s Nook where we spent a wonderful week in a beautiful location. Helped by a week of full sunshine (the air con was very nice). Lovely, helpful owners who gave us some great recommendations for places to go (sandsend beach) and where to get some good fish & chips in Whitby (royal fisheries - best we’ve had in a very long time). Welcome pack on arrival was a lovely touch, a very nice barn conversion with lots of room and an abundance of wildlife on the doorstep. We all loved watching the hares every day & seeing the squirrels and deer. It was so quiet and peaceful. We saw some beautiful sunrises & sunsets. We found lots to do locally and also further afield, a week wasn’t enough for all the exploring we wanted to do so it looks like we’ll have to book again for another week in this lovely place.

Lovely long house with two bedrooms. Open plan kitchen with fireplace. Lovely relaxing atmosphere with lots of essential items like milk, eggs, bread. Had a lovely 4 night stay and was able to enjoy a few days out. Beach and national trust are nearby and was a lovely stay, leaflets in coffee table tell you where you could visit, umbrella 🌂 also available and tourches. Very thoughtful owners with games in cupboard under mirror in kitchen. Hope future visitors enjoy as much as we did

Wow just wow - the cottage we stayed in was surrounded by fields and was just perfect. From the oak beams to the doors this was an amazing cottage. With everything you need to cook if you wish. Some amazing country pubs are only a few miles away if you don't fancy cooking. The outdoor seating area was perfect to eat breakfast and coffee outside in the morning or watch the stars at night. The sky was so clear and truly an experience in itself. This was as peaceful as you can get. Fishing lakes on site
