Roseberry View Lodge Retreat - Captain Cook Lodge

The Cleveland Hills form a quiet corridor between Middlesbrough's urban edge and the North York Moors, a landscape shaped by medieval fortifications, industrial heritage and the voyages of Captain Cook. Captain Cook Lodge sits within this countryside, part of a small cluster of properties around landscaped grounds and a private lake, with views across to Roseberry Topping and the monument itself. A public footpath leads a mile through fields to Great Ayton, where the village has shops, pubs, an ice cream parlour and a pie shop—or you can stay put and use the hot tub on the decking instead.

The lodge sleeps six across three bedrooms: a super kingsize with ensuite on the ground floor, a double, and two singles. A second bathroom serves the rest of the house. Everything happens at ground level—the open-plan living space combines a woodburner, freeview television and Xbox, with the kitchen equipped for proper cooking. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are included; logs for the burner cost £5 per basket after the initial supply. Two cars can park on the private drive.

The setting works for families wanting countryside without isolation (Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a short drive away) or couples after a break in the hills. The property is non-smoking. A travel cot and highchair are available on request.

We had a wonderful stay at Roseberry View Lodge Retreat with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The holiday park was exceptionally clean, peaceful, and well maintained. The amenities were excellent, especially the jacuzzi and sauna bath, which made the stay even more relaxing. A perfect location for a relaxing getaway with family or friends. Highly recommended.

Lodge is quite spacious A few things could do with some TLC Lights bulbs not working in various rooms. Had issues with locking main door Shower thermostat tap was loose. Could do with plastic glasses for use near hot tub. Dishwasher door was loose causing it to fall when opened. Barbecue has seen better days. Sauna was an added extra Hopefully they mend the approach road I have never seen that many pot holes on one road. Overall it was a relaxing break I will probably re-book at a later date.

Stayed here for 3 nights recently, overall it was a lovely mini break, the location was great, kids loved the park, and I thought the Dog Park was a brilliant idea. The reason I have rated it a 3/5 was because the BBQ was absolutely filthy, some of the glasses were dirty, there were stains on the toilet and the BBQ equipment was moldy. I tried to ring reception to see if anyone could help with the BBQ situation but no answer so I took matters in my own hands and went to the empty lodge next door to see what condition their BBQ was in, the grills on that one was less distusting but an improvement from ours, so I swapped the grills over (same BBQ models) and gave the grills a good scrub. The hot tub was nice but there were some broken jets, only one side of the hot tub seemed to work.
