The Engine Room

North Yorkshire

View on Google Maps

Malhamdale sits in the Yorkshire Dales, and The Engine Room puts you within reach of the area's walking trails, village pubs and the River Aire. The property itself is a reimagined turbine room from a 1795 mill complex; the original 15ft engine that once powered it still occupies the living space as a working piece of industrial heritage. You have the whole place to yourself across three bedrooms and two bathrooms, accommodating six people comfortably.

The layout flows between a open-plan living and dining area on the ground floor, where a wood-burning stove provides warmth and a large table seats everyone for meals. The kitchen is fitted out for self-catering with electric cooking, a dishwasher, and what you need to prepare proper food. Bedroom 1 has a king bed and an ensuite wet room with walk-in shower; Bedroom 2 offers bunks; Bedroom 3 has another king. A separate family bathroom serves the other bedrooms. Wi-Fi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. Parking for two cars sits on site, and you can access eight acres of shared gardens and woodland.

The property does not accept children under 5, and smoking is not permitted. It suits groups or families wanting a base for exploring the Dales without the usual holiday-park feel—though the mill's original features, including architectural quirks built into the walls, give it character beyond the standard self-catering let.
