The Follies - The Old Folly
North Yorkshire

Couples and small groups after somewhere genuinely different will find The Old Folly worth the detour. This Grade II listed building started life as a ruin in 1825 and has been converted into a standalone cottage while keeping its distinctive stone exterior largely intact. It sits within three-quarter acres of shared grounds where rabbits, owls and squirrels move freely between the properties, and there is space to wander and settle outdoors. One well-behaved pet can come along for the stay.
The cottage has one bedroom upstairs—a galleried room with a kingsize bed—and a ground-floor bathroom with bath and shower. Downstairs, a living room with Freeview Smart TV opens into a kitchen-diner furnished with a full range of appliances: oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, plus an external freezer. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are included. There is private parking for one car on site and a patio with garden furniture.
Filey itself lies three miles away, a traditional seaside town with a wide sandy beach, local shops and pubs within walking distance, and a railway station. The North Yorkshire coast, moors and wolds spread out around it; Scarborough, Bridlington and York are all reachable for day trips. A nine-hole golf course, fishing opportunities and the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs for birdwatching are all nearby. No smoking inside.

You must stay here, the location is perfect for either a traveller with a car or on the train. The Hunmamby station is a 2 min walk away and there are trains to Sheffield and York without changing. The old folly is a wonderful place to stay and the host is amazing so please improve your life and try this. We will be back.

Amazing so clean well equipped. Such nice welcoming touches like milk in the fridge wine chocolates left heating on light on in the window. Robs to use. Highly recommended and will return soon. Couldn't ask for more.

We enjoyed our stay very much, especially as it was our first trip following Lockdown! Great accommodation, warm and cosy, very well equipped and a great welcome from Vicky.

An absolute gem of a place. Great location, beautiful cottage equipped to a very high standard. Very comfy bed, lovely furnishings, everything you could possibly need is provided. Top quality bathroom with spa bath and excellent power shower. Lovely owner Vicky made us feel very welcome, very thoughtful welcome goodies, milk in the fridge, flapjack biscuits and bottle of wine, all set out waiting for us when we arrived. Hunmanby has a good butcher, great deli/grocer, good pubs, wonderful quirky cafe/tea shop in the churchyard run by volunteers (superb homemade cakes & lunches). Tiny little station within walking distance where you can get a train to anywhere along the coast and Hunmanby Gap beach, minutes away by car, easy parking, great little cafe on the beach, has to be seen to be believed.Absolutely beautiful! Thoroughly recommend Low Lodge and its sister lodge at The Old Follies for a great holiday.
