York's medieval streets, museums and galleries lie just 8 miles away, while the Howardian Hills and North York Moors draw walkers and cyclists to the surrounding countryside. Castle Howard stands nearby as a stately home and estate. Market towns at Easingwold and Helmsley offer local shopping and food; further afield are the abbey ruins at Byland and Rievaulx, the Yorkshire Air Museum near Elvington, and from Pickering, the steam railway that runs through the Moors to Whitby. A pub sits 25 yards from the door.

Thompson Arms Cottage No. 1 is a detached cottage with one double bedroom and an ensuite shower room. Downstairs, an open-plan space combines living and dining areas with a kitchen equipped for self-catering. A travel cot and highchair are available, and a shared freezer can be used for overflow storage. The cottage has its own parking space and access to a shared courtyard with garden furniture. Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are included; laundry facilities are available. The property does not permit smoking.

The nearest shop is 3 miles away, with a restaurant a mile off. If you need the facilities of a second cottage nearby, Thompson Arms Cottage No. 2 can be booked at the same time.

Lovely comfortable converted stable room, friendly and helpful owners, and great breakfasts. Competitively priced but unfortunately no food available apart from breakfast.

Very good value for money and in a nice area, unfortunately it's on a busy road with HGVs passing. The condition of the property was in general good condition with just a few minor areas that could do with attention. Unfortunately during my stay there was construction going on in an adjacent property with loud banging from 6 am.

I can't fault any aspect of my stay. Stuart and Lili were very accommodating. Stuart went out of his way to ensure transportation to and from a nearby wedding venue. The room I had was lovely, nice comfortable bed and the skylights are a nice touch. Lovely and quiet with lots of character. We were served a generous and delicious cooked breakfast in the morning. Would definitely stay again, thank you. We loved your very friendly little dogs as well, they were very cute! 🥰

We had a lovely stay so much so we have re booked the same cosy end barn conversion. The room was very reasonably priced (necessary for our small budget). The bed was large and ultra comfortable. Everywhere was cosy and warm. If you want to have your car locked away there is parking behind electric gates in the courtyard, we just left ours in the pub car park. There is the pub if you want it and its all very nice and frequented by local people. The breakfast is lovely and inexpensive. The location is ideal for Castle Howard, Malton, Stamford Bridge and York. Highly recommend
