Thompson Arms Cottage No. 2 stands beside the owners' pub, a 25-yard walk from the front door. The whole property is yours for the stay: a single bedroom with a kingsize bed, a shower room, and an open-plan living space where the kitchen, dining and sitting areas flow together. Everything is on the ground floor. You get electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels included, plus oil heating to keep warm.
The kitchen has an electric cooker and microwave for cooking proper meals, though a restaurant is a mile away if you'd rather eat out. A shared courtyard garden with sitting areas and a barbecue serves both cottages in the complex, and there is private parking for one car. A travel cot and highchair are available if needed. The property does not permit smoking.
York itself lies eight miles south, with the Minster, National Railway Museum and other attractions within reach. The Howardian Hills offer walking and cycling country nearby, Castle Howard is close by, and the North York Moors are accessible from Pickering nineteen miles away—home to a heritage steam railway that runs through to Whitby. Market towns at Easingwold and Helmsley, abbey ruins, and the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington are all within a reasonable drive.

Lovely comfortable converted stable room, friendly and helpful owners, and great breakfasts. Competitively priced but unfortunately no food available apart from breakfast.

Very good value for money and in a nice area, unfortunately it's on a busy road with HGVs passing. The condition of the property was in general good condition with just a few minor areas that could do with attention. Unfortunately during my stay there was construction going on in an adjacent property with loud banging from 6 am.

I can't fault any aspect of my stay. Stuart and Lili were very accommodating. Stuart went out of his way to ensure transportation to and from a nearby wedding venue. The room I had was lovely, nice comfortable bed and the skylights are a nice touch. Lovely and quiet with lots of character. We were served a generous and delicious cooked breakfast in the morning. Would definitely stay again, thank you. We loved your very friendly little dogs as well, they were very cute! 🥰

We had a lovely stay so much so we have re booked the same cosy end barn conversion. The room was very reasonably priced (necessary for our small budget). The bed was large and ultra comfortable. Everywhere was cosy and warm. If you want to have your car locked away there is parking behind electric gates in the courtyard, we just left ours in the pub car park. There is the pub if you want it and its all very nice and frequented by local people. The breakfast is lovely and inexpensive. The location is ideal for Castle Howard, Malton, Stamford Bridge and York. Highly recommend
