Perched right beside Hadrian's Wall Path, Winshields Campsite is a walker's dream – simple, spacious and wonderfully positioned for tackling the trail or exploring Northumberland's Roman heritage. Pitches are generous, facilities spotless (guests particularly rave about the showers and well-equipped communal kitchen), and the friendly owners go out of their way to help. The nearby Twice Brewed Inn is perfect for a post-hike pint and meal.
It's very much a no-frills, traditional site – don't expect WiFi or full hook-ups – but that's precisely the appeal. Dogs are welcome, and with excellent value for money and that unbeatable location, it's a brilliant base for anyone serious about walking Hadrian's Wall or simply craving proper Northumberland countryside.

I'm a solo, elderly, lady and I have stayed here a few times, accompanied my spaniels. It's perfectly situated for wall walking, but also a good base to get to Kielder. Very reasonably priced. Wonderful, warm, clean showers with communal kitchen/sitting room. Fabulous sunset....(weather permitting) Always my go-to campsite in this area

We were greeted by Malcolm who was friendly & welcoming. There were plenty of pitches shielded from the wind which was fierce when we we passed through! The campsite had lovely clean showers which we were not expecting, and a little kitchen area we could use indoors which we really valued after a few days walking Hadrian's wall. We had dinner at Twice Brewed which was delicious!

No hassle booking, good location, piping hot water in the showers was a pleasant surprise after a long wet day, common kitchen area, very good value for money, we used the campsite as transition point along hadrians wall which is a stones throw away, sits close to a pub, highly recommend for bikepacking/distance cyclists/backpackers, the site contact, Malcolm is very helpful. Simple, affordable, functional, fantastic!
