Addycombe Cottage
Northumberland
Rothbury is a small market town in Northumberland surrounded by walking country and close enough to the National Park for a day trip. Addycombe Cottage sits just off the High Street, putting the pubs and cafés within easy reach. Built in the 1870s as workers' housing, the cottage is entirely on the ground floor and can sleep four: two bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with bunks), a bathroom with bath and shower, and a living room with a woodburner.
The kitchen is fitted for self-catering, with an electric oven and hob, microwave, and washing machine. Wi-Fi, heating, electricity and bed linen are all included; fuel for the woodburner is provided. A small garden with patio and seating overlooks the front, and there is parking for one car on site. One well-behaved dog can stay for free. Smoking is not permitted inside.
The town itself sits in Coquetdale, known for cycling and walking routes through the Simonside Hills. The River Coquet runs through Rothbury with stepping stones to cross; further afield, Cragside House (National Trust) is nearby, Alnwick Castle 12 miles south, and the Northumberland coast an hour's drive away.
