Carven House
Northumberland
This renovated period home in Rothbury retains original character throughout – high ceilings, cast iron fireplace, window shutters and architectural details that speak to its age. The ground floor centres on a spacious kitchen with a distinctive original range, breakfast area, and separate dining room where light pools in from windows overlooking the countryside. A living room with a 55-inch TV and working open fire (fuel included) provides the main gathering space, and there's a ground-floor cloakroom for convenience.
Upstairs holds three bedrooms: a king-size in the master, a double, and two singles, served by a bathroom with bath and shower. The property sleeps six and comes with essentials covered – heating, electricity, wi-fi, bed linen and towels. One well-behaved pet stays free. A small south-facing garden area with seating overlooks the river and hills; note there are two steps down to access it.
Rothbury's pubs, cafes and restaurants are yards away on foot. The village sits on the river with walks readily available. Cragside House, a National Trust property, is within a mile. The approach has just one step, and there's on-road parking outside. No smoking indoors.
