Haydon Bridge sits within easy reach of Hadrian's Wall, the South Tyne Valley and the North Pennines—all worth exploring on foot or by car. A pub is less than a mile away, and the village itself has a solid reputation among walkers and cyclists. Chesterwood Bastle occupies a working farm on the village's edge, a four-hundred-year-old stone building with the bones of its age still visible: exposed stonework, original beams, and the solidity that comes from four centuries of use.

The layout is simple. Ground floor holds a double bedroom and bathroom with bath and shower. Upstairs, an open-plan space combines living area, dining and kitchen into one room, with a woodburner to warm it through. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, so you can cook as much or as little as you want. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included; logs for the fire are provided too. A gravelled courtyard with patio and garden furniture sits outside, and there is private parking on site.

The property sleeps two and welcomes one pet at no extra cost. It does not permit smoking. A highchair is available if needed.

Fantastic accommodation with 5 star service. We had 8 people in our party easily accommodated in the 4 bedrooms of the Clocktower Lodge. Everything you could need was provided as well as some extras in our welcome pack we didn't expect. We had afternoon tea at Matfen hall on the Saturday of our stay and the hotel staff couldn't have made us more welcome even providing cars for us to get from the stables to the hall and back. I would recommend the stables to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area as it really was beautiful and exceeded our expectations.

Lovely location and beautiful cottage. However, not very well maintained - we rented for Christmas and arrived to find one bathroom freezing, the gas fire not working, cobwebs on the beams. Just a bit frustrating really - nothing was fixed while we were there and the complaint I raised afterwards was ignored.
