About Cuckoo Fen Campsite

Opened in 2020, this three-acre campsite offers a genuinely back-to-basics escape among native trees and open pastures, just a five-minute walk from RSPB Ouse Fen—Europe's largest reed bed creation project. Expect big skies, abundant birdlife (including the reserve's nesting bitterns), and sightings of resident badgers, foxes and deer along the surrounding footpaths and cycle trails. The eco-friendly ethos means no electric hook-ups and composting loos, though there are hot showers and a washing-up area with modest lighting.

A 20-minute stroll leads to Over village for pub meals and a well-stocked shop, while a public slipway half a mile away lets you launch canoes onto the River Great Ouse. Campfires and barbecues are allowed, adding to the site's peaceful, wildlife-haven atmosphere. Those craving modern conveniences might find the facilities a touch spartan, but for campers seeking a genuinely low-impact retreat under Cambridgeshire's famously expansive skies, Cuckoo Fen delivers.

This campsite is located on a dead end road so there is no through traffic passing by. As a result it is surrounded by fields and very peaceful. The toilet and shower facilities are cleverly constructed from wood and recycled materials. Water temperature and pressure of the showers was perfect. Toilets were of the compost variety and kept immaculately clean during my two night stay. Fire pits are free to use and wood can be purchased from the onsite honesty shop using cash or via an easy to use app. This is a fantastic campsite and I would highly recommend staying here.

This place is the perfect campsite to get away from the ratrace, and conveniently just off the A14. I felt safe here as lone camping, the wooded area was a godsend for me to cool down after pitching up in 35 degree heat! The facilities were fab, really innovative, I loved the corregated metal draining board lol, and I was intrigued as to how there were zero smells in the compost loo shack? Especially in that heat? Very clever. The showers were amazing. Tim the owner was very friendly and other campers were nice. Lots of wildlife here, dragon flies, damsel flies, butterflies, mini beasts, array of birds, rabbits, pretty wildflowers, flora and fauna. Stunning sunrises/sunsets, calming walks. A perfect location for peace and tranquility and for visiting my family in the surrounding villages, will be back next time with my hubby, he'll love it. Thank you!

The campsite was well explained on the website and previous reviews so we knew what to expect and on arrival we were delighted that it met the description. Flat pitches, very clean and tidy, quiet. Well constructed and well thought out facilities, lovely owners. Well stocked blackberry bushes in close proximity. Safe walks for dog. Bird reserve 2min away.
