About The Porterhouse grill & rooms

Steak is the main event at The Porterhouse grill & rooms, where the restaurant's côte de boeuf comes up again and again as the dish to order. The kitchen turns out well-cooked cuts in a relaxed, friendly dining room, and the same care extends to breakfast the next morning, which guests single out as a genuine highlight rather than an afterthought. There's a bar on site too, with drinks available in the rooms for those who'd rather not leave.

Upstairs, the accommodation is adults only, with en-suite bathrooms and free WiFi throughout. It's a compact, food-focused setup rather than a resort-style hotel, with a garden and outdoor seating for warmer evenings and 24 hour reception for whenever guests arrive. Luggage storage is available for early check-ins or late departures.

The Mill Street address puts guests close to Oxford's train station, useful for those arriving without a car, especially as no parking is available on site. The surrounding area has plenty of its own pubs, bars and restaurants, along with entertainment nearby, while golf and fishing are within reach for anyone looking to get out of the city centre.

Nice place with a good atmosphere. Rooms were nice but felt maybe a tad bare? Larger side tables would be great for rooms that size. The food was amazing, its nice to get a steak actually seasoned properly. Breakfast was included with a la carte menu options, and tasted great too. I would definitely stay here again if visiting Oxford in the future.

Absolutely delicious food! We had a fantastic meal here and everything we ordered was spot on. The burger was incredibly juicy and well-made, and the roasted chicken with slaw had amazing flavor. The absolute highlight, though, was the steak with peppercorn sauce - it was cooked perfectly and the sauce was excellent. All the sides of fries were hot and crispy too. Highly recommend this spot if you want a great meal!

Restaurant review only. Steaks are decent but not as charred on the outside as we’d like. Flavor is reasonable. Cooking took about 45 minutes (they warn you the larger cuts take 30 minutes, but then they took longer than that). Beef short rib has a strong flavor. Cocktails not good. Reasonable range of drinks available on menu. Drink pricing ok. Portion sizes decent. It’s a quiet restaurant near the train station. Ambiance is ok, abit charming. Overall, ok but not great.

My fiancé booked a little getaway in oxford for my birthday and chose here as it was so close to the centre of everything and i adore steak. A easy win for us. It's a short walk from all the major "touristy" things but is on a mainly residential street so is super quiet at night! The service was exceptional, maybe the most friendly ive ever had! Everything was well explained upon arrival. We had dinner & breakfast downstairs and easily the best two meals ever consumed in my life. i dont think i stopped smiling throughout my meals. plus, they both arrived within 20 minutes or so. The overall "vibe" was really calm, intimate and quiet which we really enjoyed. Small details were VERY appreciated eg. a fridge with cold water available. conditioner was supplied which is not seen too often. our room had a heater that we could independently control, our windows ACTUALLY OPENED and we had a Dyson fan provided. Would definitely stay here again and will be thinking of my steak for the foreseeable.
