A straightforward Oxford hotel near the train station with comfortable beds and a garden, though rooms can feel a little dated.

About Westgate Hotel

Rooms at the Westgate Hotel come with en-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds and drinks available in the room, giving guests a simple, no-fuss base for a stay in Oxford. Family rooms are available, and while some of the decor shows its age and shower pressure can be inconsistent, the beds themselves are a consistent high point.

Downstairs there's a bar and breakfast service to start the day, plus a garden, picnic area and outdoor seating for relaxing outside when the weather allows. The property also offers free WiFi, luggage storage and 24 hour reception, and staff are on hand and known for being helpful. Parking is available nearby for a charge rather than on site.

The location on Botley Road puts guests within easy reach of Oxford's train station, useful for those arriving by rail or heading onward. Nearby options include pubs, restaurants and other eateries, along with entertainment, fishing and a golf course for those wanting to fill a day beyond the city centre.

We stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful time staying at Westgate Hotel! Steve was so helpful with pub and sightseeing recommendations, and all of the breakfast staff were lovely and attentive. The room was perfect, clean, newly updated bathroom, and enough room when a third person joined us for a visit. The Garden Cafe was a lovely place to sit outdoors. There was construction happening right outside around the station (April 2026), but we weren't at all bothered by the minimal noise, and nights were completely fine. The location close to the train was so convenient! Definitely recommend the Westgate!

It was pretty nice. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The breakfast also was a big portion. Staff was helpful. Only problem is, we traveled to the hotel at night, and there was no water in the room. They should’ve put at least 2 bottles of water. Other than that it was a nice staying.

We stayed here in the family room and it was absolutely fine for what we needed. It is a bit dated but perfectly clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Location is perfect for Oxford train station and city centre. Breakfast was continental but plenty of it - cereals, granola, muesli, yoghurt, croissants, pain chocolate, fresh fruit, toast, juice, tea or coffee. The roadworks outside did not bother us but I don't know if we were just lucky with our timing. Cheaper than most other options in Oxford. All in all, good value as we shared the cost and a pleasant, convenient stay. Would stay again.

Edit the hotel here said that no contact was made but I have three emails from agoda saying they are trying to contact them. And I contacted them and only now that the review is public do I get some sort of message to say nothing... Not a good experience in customer either... Check your email. Answer the phone. The heater was not working staff confirmed they must need to be bled. I stayed at this hotel on 21–22 November 2025, booked via Agoda. The room had no heating throughout the night. This alone was uncomfortable, but the most serious issue was the complete lack of response from the hotel. I called the emergency number repeatedly between 21:49 and 22:05 (8 attempts in total). No one answered any of the calls. I will attach screenshots of my call log as evidence. Being left overnight in a cold room with no way to reach staff is a serious safety concern. If a medical or other emergency had occurred, there would have been no assistance at all. I also paid an extra £20 on arrival to upgrade to a private bathroom, which was pointless given the unacceptable conditions. The following morning, staff apologised and offered breakfast, but this does not compensate for the safety failure. I later contacted the hotel to complain and received no response, even after more than one month. I would not recommend this hotel. Basic comfort and emergency support should never be optional.
