North Lees Campsite

Birley Ln, Hathersage, Hope Valley S32 1DY, UK

National Park-run site beneath Stanage Edge, a mile and a half from Hathersage

About North Lees Campsite

North Lees sits in a sheltered valley on the National Park's own estate, about a mile and a half north of Hathersage, and the position is the point: Stanage Edge is a straightforward uphill walk from the gate, making this one of the best-placed sites in the country for climbers. The Hope Valley railway at Hathersage puts Edale, Bamford and Sheffield within easy reach without a car.

The site takes tents, motorhomes and small campervans on grass and hardstanding pitches, though there are no electric hook-ups anywhere—plan for gas and battery power. Facilities are modern and well maintained: clean showers and toilets, a drying room that earns its keep in wet weather, and wheelbarrows at the car park for shifting kit down to the pitches. Glamping pods suit anyone not fancying canvas in April. Dogs come by prior arrangement and stay on leads within the site.

There's no shop, bar, playground or reliable wifi, so stock up at Hathersage's Co-op, bakery and pubs beforehand. Prices start around £14 per person per night. The site books out at bank holiday weekends from Easter onwards, so reserve ahead for summer Saturdays.

Friendly staff and great location for walks and to explore nearby villages and sites. We only stayed one night but facilities were clean enough and it wasn't too busy for a Friday night. Spaces for camper vans and also a selection of glamping pods mixed in with the camping fields. There was a stream next to us which made for a relaxing soundtrack to our evening. Lots of lovely birdsong and owls as well

This is perfect for exploring the area and being out the way, the site is small, with 2 showers per gender plus an accessible and family shower room. The facilities were always clean and we never had to queue to use them. We stayed in a pod which was clean and perfect for us. We would definitelygo back again. All around first rate campsite!

It's a great campsite. Has all the amenities and fresh water etc. It also has plug sockets which I didn't know, so there's no need for a portable battery pack. The downfall is, it's on a slope, I didn't sleep very well as I kept sliding down throughout the night. But I dealt with it given the prime location. Also, theirs staff there daily and they are amazing people who are super helpful.

Really lovely campsite in a beautiful remote location surrounded by trees and hills and a brook. Mostly aimed at tents but there are also 5 pitches for campervans, and wooden pods to rent. Nice clean toilets and showers. Friendly and helpful staff.
