Pub campsite in Glamorgan with tent and motorhome pitches, river access, and fire pits from £12.
About Tafarn-Y-Garreg Campsite
Tafarn-Y-Garreg is a campsite built around a working pub near Pen Y Cae in Glamorgan. It takes tent and motorhome pitches, making it suitable for touring caravanners and those with their own transport. Showers are available on site. The setting includes woodland and river access, with fire pits for campers to use.
The pub itself is the draw for many visitors, with a reputation for good hospitality and a range of cocktails. However, some guests have found the facilities inconsistently maintained, so this is worth checking on before booking. The combination of camping, riverside location, and on-site drinking makes it a reasonable base for couples or small groups looking for something beyond a standard campsite.

What visitors say
The ground itself is in a nice location. But very small. The toilet and shower facilities camp side were either locked or broken for the whole duration of the stay. There was one extra toilet across the road at the pub, requiring to cross an A road. Not the safest experience and the lack of shower with no attempts to fix it were frustrating. It's a shame. It could be a very nice little location otherwise, it just seems like a quick side hustle for the pub. The landlady was fine, blunt - but not rude. No issues there.

4 stars for location. But that's because of the Brecon Beacons. -1 star for the campsite. Let's address the elephant in the room. I left a review on pitch-up which was either taken down by the owners or contested by them. I'm not sure which but pitch up refused to explain and outright refused to cooperate. I asked them where in my review the problem was and they stopped replying. Need I say more. The camp site could be amazing. I will keep this short. I would not recommend this camp site for anyone other than single/couple adventurers used to basic facilities. Didn't even bother with the showers, the river was cleaner. Left a day early as couldn't stand it. They over sell spaces and pack you in like sardines. You have to cross the road to get water. If the bar is busy, good luck. The patrons will swallow you up as the tap is in a silly location. This review will not be removed. I spoke the truth then and I am now. In my opinion, this campsite is so very far from "family friendly". Edit: We did read the description. Thoroughly. And that was mentioned in my original review on pitch-up. Including what I believe were misleading camera angles. Whilst I accept the apology, blaming a customer with genuine concerns about reviews and conditions for not reading the description is, in my opinion, poor behaviour.

This is a gorgeous campsite with tranquil surroundings. It’s good if you appreciate natural scenery and a nice hike. However, the facilities were appalling and I’d say management is lacklustre. Despite advertising that they are open, the pub was closed- no owners in sight. Toilet facilities were locked and bins were overflowing. Why not take care of such a beautiful spot? I just got the impression the owners don’t really care which is shambolic. For this reason I wouldn’t return. I’d recommend finding another campsite nearby as the surrounding area is beautiful.
