Penshenkin Barn

Photo: Gavin Hutchcraft

Penshenkin Barn is a converted barn sleeping ten across five bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. The property sits in open countryside near Presteigne in Powys, on the England-Wales border. Four of the bedrooms have king beds; one has two singles. Ground floor spaces include a large open-plan living area with a wood burner, a dining room, and a kitchen fitted with a range cooker, dishwasher and breakfast area. A utility room with washing machine is also on this level. Underfloor heating on the ground floor and oil central heating throughout keep the barn warm; electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included, as are initial logs for the burner.

The hot tub on the front lawn accommodates seven people and overlooks the surrounding landscape. The property has parking for three cars and wheelchair access. A natural water supply comes from a borehole. Smoking is not permitted. The barn works for groups and families—travel cots, highchairs and stairgates are available on request, and each bedroom has a smart TV.

Walking trails fan out from the property into mid-Wales woodland; Water-Break-Its-Neck waterfall is nearby. Hay-on-Wye lies within reach for its bookshops and May literary festival, as does the Royal Welsh Agricultural show ground at Llanelwedd in July. Hergest Croft Gardens near Kington and a small breeds animal park outside Kington offer other outings within a short drive.

Stayed for a long weekend, despite the barn being vacated from previous visitors the day we arrived, the place was spotless. Hosts had provided several amenities in milk, cheese and butter, there was tea bags etc....also enough games to keep kids entertained. The venue is very picturesque. Close to the Elan Valley and Water Breaks it neck waterfall. Hot tub was well used too. Whether you want a restful or adventurous place to go i would fully recommend this venue.
