Root sits in the quiet countryside around Newtown, where open moorland and rural villages fill the horizon. The lodge is set apart from neighbouring properties, with its own garden and decked area looking out over the landscape. A private hot tub on the deck becomes the focal point for evening relaxation, and a wood burner in the living room warms the space through cooler months.
All accommodation is on the ground floor. The main bedroom has a super king bed and ensuite shower; the second bedroom has two single beds that zip together. Both have heated towel rails. The open-plan living and dining space flows onto the deck through patio doors, and the kitchen is equipped for proper cooking—electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and all the basics. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. There's a pond on the grounds. The lodge sleeps four and is yours alone; smoking is not permitted inside.
This suits couples or small families wanting a retreat without neighbours close by, or anyone who wants to use Newtown as a base for walking and exploring the Powys hills. Parking is available for two cars.

If I could give this minus stars, I would! Booked in March 2025 and paid in full. They cancelled it 2 days before our stay (May 2026) because they double booked it. I can’t honestly believe the other person booked it before us. That’s a 1st and 70th birthday weekend cancelled. The inconvenience of cancelling other events planned in the area and pet minding services. They didn’t even have the decency to ring. I wouldn’t mind but we messaged less than two weeks ago to arrange a travel cot and high chair and this issue didn’t flag then?!? Not sure where they thought we were going to book with two days notice for a bank holiday weekend! Poor management! Poor communication skills! Poor host! Don’t use!

We stayed in Lara and Root at Pentre Lodges and had a brilliant experience from start to finish. The lodge was spotlessly clean, well set up, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. You can tell a lot of care goes into maintaining the place. Ricky and his wife were excellent hosts. Friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help if needed, while still giving you your own space to relax. The whole stay felt easy and stress-free. It’s a great place to unwind and switch off. We would definitely come back again. Massively recommend.

Just returned from our second stay at Pentre Lodges. This time over Christmas. All three of the lodges are beautifully decorated and the views are spectacular. Ricky and Louise are fantastic hosts, they went above and beyond, decorating the lodges and even leaving us gifts under the Christmas tree. We have stayed in both the Warne and Root lodge and cannot fault anything. This will definitely be an annual visit. So happy we found this beautiful gem!

We stayed in the roots lodge for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The lodge is finished to high standard with every comfort you could need. It's very private and peaceful. The views while sat in the hot tub are amazing. The hosts we met briefly but were very nice and helpful, newton is a short drive away about 15 minutes due to the lanes but you have everything you could need pubs shops etc. We would definitely stay again for a very relaxing break from normal life
