Scaling Dam reservoir lies a short drive away, where you can windsurf or paddleboard, and the North York Moors spread out across the region with footpaths threading through heather and moorland. Whitby is reachable by the heritage steam train that runs through the landscape, or by car along routes that connect a string of sandy beaches and rocky bays. A pub sits within a mile on foot. The coast itself is roughly 6 miles distant.

The Deers Den is a converted barn offering one bedroom with a king bed, a shower room, and an open-plan ground floor that combines kitchen, dining and living space. You have your own parking space, and the property opens directly onto 7 acres of shared woodland and meadows. Essentials like electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are provided, along with a kitchen equipped for cooking proper meals. One well-behaved dog can come with you; they're welcome throughout the house except upstairs. The only restriction is no smoking inside.

This suits couples or two people travelling together who want to base themselves near both countryside and coast without being hemmed into a town. The barn conversion was recently renovated and sits on a working farm where you'll have the run of substantial grounds.

We stayed in the deers den cottage . It was lovely and comfortable and clean . Huge comfy bed and loads of space for the doggies to be downstairs . Loved the area road noise did not affect us at all . Walls of cottage are so thick . Ideal position for touring the area . Loved the outside access for dogs and the wooded area to walk them as well . Owner five star . Thank you for a lovely break we will be back

"farm house" Firstly dirty. In fact filthy. Upon arrival we had to clean, food splashes in the kitchen, wiping down the bathroom ect. That's just day to day dirt. Then the floors... They were laminate but unbelievably sticky with dirt. Like weeks/months of dirt. Our socks went in the bin, they were black. (Honestly can't believe how bad it was). Complained, no rush and no apologies. Anyway it took till the next day to have just the floors cleaned. The funniest thing about this was the dirty mop bucket water had been thrown down the bath? Surely that's goes down the toilet? Anyway... Its also untidy and just oddly rough. Those chairs in the dinning room are actually outside chairs that have been outside and are worn and weathered, gross. Random items left around for example gardening gloves in the kitchen, wheel barrows with dirt in them.. Here's the miscellaneous. No mirrors. Complex bins are the view from the kitchen/dinner. Washing machine didn't work (needed it for our socks). No live TV. Masses of marks and scuffs in every room. No outdoor seating. Road noise throughout the night. No cushion or blankets. Basically void of any home comfort, bit sad the more I think about it actually. Good points. Decent location for access to local hot spots. Stunning surroundings. The bedding and towels were actually clean. Could be great but unfortunately for us it wasn't. Cleanliness every time, perfect sometimes.
