About Ship & Trades
Ship & Trades occupies a converted dockyard engineering works at Chatham Maritime, overlooking one of the yacht basins at the former Royal Naval Dockyard with views across the Medway to Upnor Castle. The steel-framed building has been given a contemporary fit-out that nods to its nautical setting, and many of its 15 boutique bedrooms have marina views, with two offering private waterfront balconies.
Downstairs, the restaurant and bar make the most of the setting, serving as a destination in their own right for dinner or Sunday lunch as much as for overnight guests, with a comfortable lounge and two snug rooms adding to the pub-with-rooms feel. Run by Kentish brewer Shepherd Neame, the inn keeps a strong local ale selection alongside its food menu.
Rochester's High Street, castle and cathedral are a short drive or a pleasant riverside walk away, while Chatham's Historic Dockyard and the Dockside outlet shopping centre are within easy walking distance, making Ship & Trades a good base for combining a Rochester visit with the wider Medway waterfront.

What guests say
We didn't stay here, but met friends for a long, lazy evening of drinks, dinner and more drinks! It was absolutely perfect for our requirements: the seating was comfortable, the food was delicious and the ambience was just right. We will be visiting again, soon!

One of our favourite places to grab a bite with the family, great for large groups with yummy food, fantastic views, and friendly service. The meals were all lovely and fresh, the only note would be that the roasted carrot salad had significantly less carrot than expected… but still delicious!

Lovely evening meal tonight. Mum had the sausage and mash and I had the crispy chicken fillet burger. Service and care by our waitress Chloe was fab. Very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for her. She is a credit to the hospitality industry and the company she works for. Will come back X

Breathtaking location, the young man served me an amazing cup of coffee with a tiny brownie, even keeping in mind for the Brownie to be plant-based. It's the little touches that show they care about their customer. Don't forget to log your registration of your car so you don't get a fine.
