About The George in Rye

The George in Rye has stood on the High Street since 1575, rebuilt in its current Georgian form after a fire in the early eighteenth century, and today combines that long history with a thoroughly contemporary interior. Original features including a Georgian ballroom sit alongside modern furnishings and locally made textiles throughout the public rooms.

Bedrooms range from cosy doubles to larger suites, each individually designed, with several retaining exposed beams or Georgian sash windows looking onto the High Street or the quieter courtyard behind. The hotel's spa treatment rooms offer a modern counterpoint to the historic building.

The restaurant centres on a wood-fired oven and grill, drawing on Sussex and Kent produce, while the George Tap bar serves a more relaxed menu and a strong selection of local ales and gins, making the hotel as much a destination for dinner as for a stay.

My girlfriend and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The location is ideal for exploring the beautiful medieval town of Rye. The town itself is charming and full of character and this hotel made our visit even more memorable. The staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and attentive throughout our stay. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. We especially loved the full George English breakfast, which was delicious (perfect way to start the day :)))!!!) We highly recommend

We have just returned from our son’s wedding at The George in Rye, and had the most fabulous time. It was a large wedding which took over the whole hotel, and from the minute we arrived the staff were amazing. It was such a warm and friendly atmosphere. The canapés, wedding breakfast and breakfast were all exceptional. Anna Campanella, the wedding planner goes the extra mile to make everything just so, and greets everyone with warmth and great care. All the staff were so nice, efficient and friendly. The rooms are cosy and beautifully decorated. Rye is such a beautiful setting for a wedding, and the short walk to the Town Hall for the ceremony was lovely, and the return with the town crier leading the way, was an exceptional experience. We can’t recommend it enough.

Outstanding! We’ve just stayed at The George in Rye and it was genuinely faultless. Beautifully done interiors with loads of character, an immaculate suite, and a calm, quietly luxurious feel throughout. Bar was excellent too, which is why it was packed! A great atmosphere and seriously good service. Special shout out to Tassie born Brendan in FOH: warm, professional and brilliantly attentive. The kind of service that makes you want to come straight back. Thank you for a spectacular birthday weekend!

What an amazing stay at The George in Rye! From the moment we arrived, it was clear that every detail of the hotel had been thoughtfully curated with so much charm, the decor is gorgeous, and that care really shows throughout. Our room had a lovely large ensuite bathroom with a huge bath, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The location couldn’t be better: right in the centre of Rye, with everything within easy walking distance. The staff were wonderfully attentive, helping us arrange a bike rental so we could explore the stunning Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, which they had also recommended. Rye is an easy trip from London, and the hotel is just a six-minute walk from the train station, perfect for a weekend away. We had a lovely time wandering the town’s little shops. We loved our stay at the George and will certainly come back very soon!!
