About The Hope Anchor Hotel
The Hope Anchor sits at the highest point of Rye's old town, at the end of Watchbell Street, in a position originally chosen for its view over the harbour approach when the sea still reached the town. That view now stretches across Romney Marsh and the River Rother towards the coast, and remains one of the hotel's main draws.
Rooms vary in size and outlook, with those at the front taking in the marsh view and others looking over the quieter cobbled streets of the old town; several retain the low ceilings and irregular layout typical of the surrounding buildings.
The hotel's restaurant and terrace make the most of the view, serving a straightforward menu built around local seafood and Sussex produce, and its position at the top of the town means most of Rye's sights are a short, if occasionally steep, walk downhill.

We had a wonderful stay at The Hope Anchor. The hotel has beautiful interiors and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast was both tasty and filling, and we especially loved that we could take our coffee to go in a takeaway cup. It was also very convenient to be able to leave our bags at reception after checking out so we could enjoy the town before our train. Highly recommended!

Lovely Hotel at top of Rye near the church and castle makes an excellent base to explore Rye. The staff are very friendly making you feel at home and breakfast was excellent with plenty of options to choose from both cooked and continental. Our room was cosy and comfortable perfect for our long weekend I would highly recommend a stay here.

The hotel is quaint and comfortable, but it is dated and it shows. We were upgraded when we arrived and the room was clean and had a lovely view of the river. The staff member who we dealt with when we arrived was fine but not very engaging. However, the staff member we dealt with after was fantastic and very eager to assist. As anticipated, the hotel does not have parking and you have to go up a hill from the closest parking lot - which is small and may be difficult to find a spot. But, once you are there, the location is great and Rye is a beautiful little town to enjoy on foot as everything is close by.

Enjoyed our one night stay here. Booked as it was a place my parents had stayed in in January 1970. Location and views are fabulous. Staff were just right - friendly and looked after our bags and not ever overbearing. Bed was comfy and room was warm and clean. I would definitely stay again. We didn't have the breakfast or sit in the bar or (cosy lounge) so can't comment on experience of those although they all looked good.
