About The Ship Inn Rye
The Ship Inn stands close to the old quay on the Strand, in a building with origins as a wool store and, according to local history, a stop on the smuggling routes that once ran through Rye. Its position at the foot of the town, near the river, gives it a different character from the guesthouses higher up on Mermaid Street.
Bedrooms are simply furnished, several with exposed beams and views towards the river or the old town rising up the hill behind, and the inn's relaxed, unfussy style suits visitors who want a straightforward base rather than a highly decorated period interior.
Downstairs, the bar and restaurant serve a menu built around local and seasonal ingredients, with a good range of ales, and the short walk up into the old town takes in the Landgate and some of Rye's quieter back lanes.

What guests say
We were visiting for a wedding nearby and stayed in one of the rooms. The room was beautiful, well equipped & the bed very comfy. The location is perfectly situated, the pub is great (very good drinks selection!) with a nice vibe and outdoor seating (we were lucky with the weather). Staff were all an absolute delight, and the breakfast the following morning was the cherry on the cake. Couldn’t recommend this pub more for those looking for a delightful stay in Rye. We will be back!

Very nice food, we ate here twice on our two night stay ( we actually stayed at a different hotel as there is no on site parking at The Ship). Prices were very good, portions were excellent and plentiful, drinks were great. Service was a tad hit and miss, depending on who you got, but worth putting up with for the decent food. We're a pair of old bits, so we thought the music was spot on! Lovely decor, nice atmosphere. Excellent and we will go back some day.

Very nice friendly pub. We have stayed here a few times now, and it's rooms are comfortable and clean. Dog friendly, too. Breakfasts are tasty, as is the rest of the food we have tried over different visits. Recommended.

Bedroom was pleasant and the bed was very comfortable. Quirky small bathroom but the grout in areas of the shower was black. The shower door was broken and water leaked all over the floor. Informed housekeeping who were aware. Expected to be moved but had to ask again, with the response being that the shower would be fixed tomorrow! Given a room key to move ourselves. Didn't eat at The Ship as locals advised us not to. Good location, nice views.
