About Applecross Inn
The Applecross Inn sits on Shore Street, right on the beach of the Applecross peninsula in Wester Ross. Getting there is part of the experience: the direct route crosses the Bealach na Ba, the highest road pass in Britain, with hairpin bends and a 2,053-foot summit, while the coast road round from Shieldaig is longer but gentler. Either way, arriving at a whitewashed inn facing the sea feels earned.
There are seven en suite bedrooms, six upstairs and one accessible double or twin on the ground floor. Rooms are plain and comfortable rather than designed, with tea and coffee facilities, a radio alarm, hairdryer, bottled water, fresh fruit and free wi-fi. Every room looks across the Inner Sound towards Raasay and Skye, and on a clear evening the sunsets are the reason people book a year ahead. Availability is genuinely tight between April and October.
The bar and restaurant made the inn's reputation. Shellfish comes off boats working the same water, and the menu runs to langoustines, hand-dived scallops, crab, squat lobster and whatever has been landed that day, served without ceremony. There is a serious whisky selection, live music on some evenings, and in summer an ice cream and takeaway hatch outside. The dining room fills quickly, so residents are advised to book a table when they book a room.
Applecross is a walking, wildlife and stargazing place rather than a sightseeing one. Otters, seals, red deer and sea eagles are all seen regularly, and the lack of light pollution makes the night sky exceptional. Coastal paths, the Applecross Heritage Centre and the walled garden are close by, and the North Coast 500 route runs through the village. It suits travellers who do not mind a long single-track drive to reach somewhere genuinely remote, and mobile signal is patchy, so plan ahead.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What an incredible experience at Applecross Inn! Everything was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The food was fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavour. We loved every single dish we ordered and honestly, every plate went back empty! The seafood was exceptional, the desserts were unforgettable, and the stunning views made the whole experience even more special. The staff were warm, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. This was one of the highlights of our Highland trip, and we would happily return in a heartbeat. Thank you for such a wonderful meal and memorable experience! This is a very nice place. We had an evening meal here and it was all good. The Applecross Ale, brewed locally was very good. I'm a devotee of real ale and you can see the differences they have to contend with regarding hops vs. malted barley (hops being scarce here) yet this local ale was tasty and morrish albeit without that bitter aftertaste which good hops provide. But given it's location I'd give top marks to this ale, it was very enjoyable and probably one of the best ales I've tasted across the Highlands, well done. I have to give good marks too to the staff at the Applecross Inn who were friendly and most courteous. Please pay this Inn a visit if you are near, they deserve support.

Had an amazing meal there with family. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Food was outstanding. Had crab and mango starter and scallops as main course. Every mouthful was delicious. Well worth the trip.

Lovely old pub in a stunning,remote location. I had half a session ale and enjoyed a couple of starters of langoustine and scallops. Both fresh and tasty as you’d expect. Service was great. You’ve got 2 options to get there and back, one over the pass and the other,which is slightly longer but easier going. Lovely stop which I highly recommend. 🏔️ 🍻 🦐 🦞 🏴
