About Applecross Campsite
Applecross Campsite sits on the remote Applecross peninsula in Wester Ross, reached either over the Bealach na Ba — the highest and most dramatic road pass in Britain, climbing to 626 metres in a series of hairpins — or on the longer coast road from Shieldaig. Either way, arriving feels like an achievement. The site occupies sheltered ground a short walk from the village and the shore of the Inner Sound, with views across the water towards Raasay and Skye.
Pitches include grass with and without electric hook-up and hardstanding with hook-up and water, taking tents, campervans, caravans and motorhomes, plus a few camping cabins for anyone travelling without kit. Facilities cover the essentials: heated showers and toilets with hot water, a laundry room, and a children's playground. Dogs are welcome. The Applecross Inn next door is a major draw — langoustines, scallops and crab landed locally, plus a takeaway fish and chip window in summer. Beyond eating, this is a place for sea kayaking, coastal walks, watching for otters and seals, and doing very little. Note that the Bealach na Ba isn't suitable for large caravans; the coast road is the safer approach for anything sizeable. A fixture on the North Coast 500, so booking is essential in high summer.

Pros: The location is beautiful and also hugely convenient if you’re doing the NC500. And it’s right at the start/finish of the Bealach na Bá pass. The receptionist was welcoming and the main building with its cafe looked really good (we were only staying the night so didn’t get a chance to use it). And we were grateful for their understanding when we called ahead to say we might be late arriving. Cons: The site is spread across two fields. If you are put in the second field, you are a considerable hike away from dish washing/laundry facilities as these are adjacent to the reception building. For those in the second field, you have one facilities block consisting of six ‘wet rooms’. This isn’t enough for the number of people the site can accommodate, and as showers and toilets are combined in the same units, the loos are unavailable for longer periods of time than if they were separated. The grass had recently been mown - the site looked great - but the cut grass hadn’t been collected. This meant grass got everywhere, including the wet rooms which ended up looking a bit like rugby changing rooms. If we were there for more than one night, these factors would quickly start to affect the enjoyment of our stay, especially at the height of the season.

Stayed for a weekend in our motorhome. Lovely site, nice new toilet block. Beautiful red deer mosey around the outskirts in the evening. Nice meals in the Applecross Inn although the tourist prices are quite staggering.

Excellent facilities: plenty of clean showers and toilets (ten showers total), laundry facilities (£6 for a full load), washing up area, full recycling facilities, coffee shop, super helpful and friendly staff. Really well maintained. No views really, but that's not the fault of the site. Very quiet and tons of space between pitches. Lots of local trails and enough local amenities: one shop, two cafes, pub, filling station.

Nice campsite situated in a lovely peaceful location, due to lots of rain we got moved from a grass pitch to a hard standing pitch which was very much appreciated, facilities were good but unfortunately other campers failed to clean up after themselves, this is no fault of the campsite hence the 5 stars. Lovely pub and fish and chips served in the bay below the campsite.
