A campsite near Shrewsbury
About The Rookery
Fancy the idea of sloping off to Shropshire for a bit of back-to-basics field camping? The Rookery, tucked away in the sleepy village of Ryton near Dorrington, south of Shrewsbury, is just the spot. This is intimate, non-electric camping on a peaceful meadow shaded by trees in the grounds of a handsome country house – a handful of pitches only, which means plenty of space and privacy for everyone.
Facilities are deliberately simple: portable toilets, mains water, and a welcoming community-owned pub just down the lane (closed Tuesdays). You can barbecue on site – essentials are a 15-minute walk away at Dorrington's shop. The location is brilliant for cycling National Cycle Route 81, which runs through the village en route to historic Shrewsbury, and there's walking galore on local hills including the Caradoc, Long Mynd and Stiperstones. Note that dogs aren't permitted, so leave four-legged friends at home.

What visitors say
My partner and I had an incredible three-night stay at Nooks Rook at Rookery Woods to celebrate her birthday. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Dale, who was friendly, helpful, and took the time to show us around and explain how everything worked. Our stay was nothing short of amazing. The setting was peaceful and private, with the surrounding trees making it feel like we had our own secluded retreat away from the rest of the world. The accommodation was spotless, hygienic, and thoughtfully designed, with everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate such a special occasion. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and will definitely be returning in the future. Highly recommended. Thank you Heather and Dale for creating something special for us. See you in the future.

We've just had an amazing 3 nights at the Rooks View. We were met by Dale and Heather, both of whom were so nice and welcoming. Dale barrowed all of our luggage (we had our dog too) to our tree house which saved me a few trips to and from the car. The tree house literally took my breath away, and my Wife loved it. It was perfect. It was so quiet and private. We made use of the hot tub, sauna, fire pit, log burner, cinema screen, bbq and pizza oven! All lovely touches to a beautiful environment. I even stood under the ice bucket to cool down a few times! Worth every penny. Will definitely visit again! Thank you!

Currently staying at this amazing place. It’s got everything you could ever need for a luxurious, pampering holiday within nature. The views from Rook’s View are incredible and we’ve been fortunate to see so much wildlife whilst we’ve been here. Our dog’s first holiday away and I don’t think she will want to leave! Thanks so much Heather and Dale for being fabulous hosts and creating such a tranquil haven for guests to enjoy. We will be back definitely!

We had a lovely couple of days staying in the Rooks Nook. The treehouse was beautiful with the most stunning views. The hot tub with cinema screen was our highlight and the perfect place to relax. We was lucky enough to wake up to snow we still ventured out for a walk the local area is amazing with views for miles. Dale was so welcoming on our arrival and very helpful. Would highly recommend.
