About Riverside Inn by Chef & Brewer Collection

A low, two-floor inn spread along the banks of the River Severn, the Riverside Inn by Chef & Brewer Collection has 24 rooms and an adults-only policy that keeps things quiet. It sits just outside Shrewsbury in Cound, with the water visible from much of the property and gardens and outdoor seating making the most of the setting.

Rooms are en suite, with drinks available in room and family-style spacing for those travelling with others rather than children. The restaurant and bar serve as the heart of the place, with breakfast included in the daily routine and outdoor tables for warmer days. Free WiFi, 24-hour reception and free on-site parking with an EV charge point round out the practical side of a stay.

Fishing is available nearby for those keen to spend time by the water, and the riverside grounds themselves are worth a slow walk. It's a straightforward base for exploring Shrewsbury, built around the river rather than the town centre.

What a shame that this place is all about the views but not about the service. Went on a Saturday afternoon for a child free lunch with my partner which is a rare occurrence. Arrived and was shown our table and given menus which despite being the end of May are still winter plates. We tried to use the app to order as the bar was very busy but it doesn’t download very quickly nor then did it work so we ordered at the bar which took a while. The server brought over our food and told us where the cutlery was. Too which there was none. So we had to then find someone who was around to get some whilst the food was going cold. There was no check back at the table. My steak was over cooked and tough. The server literally put the plates down. Went on her phone. Took off her apron and got herself a drink and sat with her partner to eat nachos whilst we are sat with no check back and a poor cooked over priced steak. We didn’t stay for another drink despite wanting to enjoy the views. When we left there was no thank you or goodbye which is the basics of customer service. This is just a dressed up Wetherspoons. Get your own condiments (you won’t find salt in the shakers) get your own cutlery (if they have bothered to polish any and put them in the baskets that the flies are landing on) and don’t expect your server to give a damn because she clocks off soon. Shocking, will not be coming again and I will ensure that anyone I know doesn’t waste their cash either.

Booked a family meal in the outdoor area 13.08. Parents arrived before us, we arrived 10 mins later. When my partner queried how to order food was rudely responded with ‘like I told your parents, on the app or at the bar’ - bear in mind parents are in their 70’s and may not be so familiar with online ordering - quite a rude response. Ordered via the app, waited 40 minutes for mains, no problem, nice evening -2 x mains arrived but no cutlery - my food was cold but after waiting so long didn’t bother to complain. Asked for condiments and extra gravy - was told condiments and cutlery were ‘over there’ - perhaps could have advised this earlier? Another 5 minutes before 2 other mains arrived. Waitress then made a point with a bad attitude about getting ‘extra gravy’ and pointing to condiments. No huge drama but when asked for some table water, was greeted with huffing and puffing from waitress ‘you could have got this from the bar’ - I appreciate it’s busy, but you appeared to have minimal staff - this is not your customer’s problem and they should not have to suffer as a result. Positive - all food was really lovely and tasty! Bad points - poor customer service with bad attitude - stop taking so many bookings if you can’t provide good quality customer service. Nice location though 👍

As always perfect meals & service. 4 of us dined for a birthday celebration, seated in the Orangery with lovely views. I had the rump steak panini, it was tender & tasty. Great value at £11.50, cheaper than a burger in other restaurants! The others enjoyed their meals, all presented & cooked perfectly. Return visit planned again. Fin (our waiter) was friendly & had a sense of humour which added to the great service he provided.

We have been here a couple of times for a meal. The location is spectacular & well worth a visit if not for food at least visit for a drink. There are plenty of outdoor tables & chairs that look out over the river & the well tended gardens. The indoor tables are popular & I would recommend reserving one as it can get very busy. The food was well presented & tasty. 2 of us had mixed grills which were well cooked & huge! The staff were welcoming & helpful & we had good service. The premises were clean & tidy. Overall I would highly recommended a visit to this establishment & we will certainly return when we are next in the area.
