About The Old Rectory
Fourteen rooms is all The Old Rectory has, which keeps things small enough for the staff to know their guests by name rather than room number. Set on Lowe Hill Road in Shrewsbury, it's within easy reach of Shrewsbury Castle and the River Severn, making it a sensible base for exploring the town on foot.
Rooms are kept comfortable and clean, and breakfast is a genuine highlight, freshly prepared each morning using local ingredients. There's a restaurant and bar on site for the rest of the day, along with a garden for quieter moments, free WiFi throughout, and meeting rooms for those combining business with a stay. Pets are welcome, and practical extras like luggage storage and a laundry service are on hand for longer trips.
Free on-site parking removes one of the usual headaches of visiting a historic town centre. The atmosphere throughout is calm rather than lively, with staff regularly praised for being friendly and genuinely helpful, and the overall package is considered good value for the price.
What guests say
Firstly, thank you so much to the staff for accommodating us last minute. The original accommodation we had organised was double booked by accident. We were recommended this hotel but had never heard of them because we come from Scotland and honestly cannot fault. The building itself is beautiful and has been restored with care. The rooms are decent sized and is situated on well kept grounds, which we enjoyed going for a walk around. The staff were so friendly and we were well looked after. The breakfast was so tasty so hats off to the chef. Thank you again and if we're in the area, we'll definitely try booking here again!

We enjoyed an overnight stay at this beautiful peaceful hotel. The gardens are lovely and the surrounding countryside spectacular. Our room was clean and comfortable providing a good nights sleep. But what made our stay even more enjoyable was the incredible staff. Natalie and Kate made us so welcome and went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. They are a credit to the hotel!! The breakfast was the best we have had in a long time. If you are looking for a special break look no further it’s truly wonderful. Thank you also much Katherine and Michele

The Old Rectory will exceed your expectations. It's a beautiful old manor house, with many of the original features and truly enchanting gardens. Relaxed and cosy, it's a real English country experience, within easy driving distance of Shrewsbury. It seemed to us, the whole place was being run by the exceptional 'Kate'. Although she was covering almost all the staffing tasks, her charming, polite, and friendly approach was second to none. Many, many thanks Kate - you deserve a generous bonus!

Great spot situated in the friendly town of Wem. The hotel was inviting and staff were more than welcoming and helpful. It offered light meals which were varied and tasty. Parking was plentiful the drive in is stone but was not difficult to manage given that we travelled by motorbike. All in all a restful spot with beautiful gardens and friendly staff.
