Halford Big Barn

Shropshire

View on Google Maps

Craven Arms sits in countryside rich with history. The village itself contains unusual architecture—a round house among its treasures, thought to have sheltered pilgrims centuries ago. Medieval Ludlow is close by, packed with listed buildings. Walks lead to Stokesay Castle; Wenlock Edge and Long Mynd are a short drive away. Halford Big Barn is a converted stone building designed to sleep large groups without anyone feeling cramped.

The property spreads across three sections with separate staircases, so different parties can have their own space. The main barn holds two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, plus two further living areas—one with a woodburner, one with a TV—and a kitchen fitted with electric cooking, dishwasher and full-size appliances. Two annexe wings upstairs contain six more bedrooms between them. Five bathrooms serve the whole building. Bed linen and Wi-Fi are included; heating is provided by gas central heating and night storage heaters, with wood for the burner also supplied. A utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Outside, a lawned garden with courtyard and patio offers space for gathering, with garden furniture and a barbecue in place. Parking is on site. A pub lies within a mile. The property is no-smoking throughout. The first-floor wings do not interconnect internally, so guests in each section have genuinely separate accommodation.

Large building with plenty of room. Quite cold in the winter in some rooms but hot in others. Comfy beds.

Had a great 3 night stay here with friends. 3 lounges one with fabulous fire. Plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms, washing machine and tumble dryer to get the wet, muddy clothes cleaned. In a great spot half a mile from Craven Arms with walks from the doorstep over Shropshire countryside

If you like a dated past best decor and an actual bat infestation then this is the place for you. The building itself is nice and with a bit of work it could be a lovely place to stay however its let down by a poor quality finish in the kitchen and bathrooms. They are probably 10 years past best. The beds are pretty old and I wouldnt like to guess when the bedding was last changed. The house also has a problem with bats, during our weeks stay we have found about 3 dead bats and have had bats flying round inside the house every night.

Spent the week at Halford Big Barn. Plenty of parking and a good location. Not too far from the nearest supermarket (Tuffins) and the rail station. Some parts of the furniture in the property were a bit dated, yet still comfortable. The only real downside was the mattresses which left many of the group feeling not very well rested. The mattress I slept on I could feel the springs going into my back. A short term suggestion for the owner would be to acquire some mattress toppers until the mattresses can be replaced. Overall very good experience and would stay again.
